Hey all.. need some help here as I'm going nuts trying to figure this out.

Myself and my roommates cannot get a sustained internet connection over Wi-Fi and a hardline to the router for more than 2 minutes without it cutting in and out. I was on the phone with NetGear for 45 minutes today trying to figure it out and they were no use. We never lose connection to the router's Wi-Fi network itself, just to the internet, which is making me think it could be a problem with the modem? I'm going to hardwire straight to the modem tomorrow to see if this problem keeps occurring even then, but wanted to see if anyone had any tips for me.

I've had that problem just recently with an old router. It seemed that the router wasn't able to keep up the connection to the ISP, only a hard reset made it reconnect and then disconnected again after several minutes.
End of story...I replaced the router and now it works as it should.

Sub parts to troubleshoot. As mentioned by someone else, it may be the router. I had a Router quit also that started freezing and dropping WiFi connections. Replacement of the router fixed it.

You mentioned "room mates", are you in a collage dorm using a collage ISP/server? If so, switch off the option to find strongest/closest network and choose the strongest manually.

Here's what I'm thinking, if your in a dorm your signal finding is grabbing any and all signals around you causing a lot of switching making it a intermittent connection. Use a straight cable in between the modem and router, the components will do the cross over...

I had a bunch of router problems at home recently and the new router we picked up was defective and had to be replaced; maybe you just got a bad cookie as well.
