Sorry I cant offer any techincal support, but I would like to offer some advice. I think your question would be better answered on BC's site bcpneumatics.com They deal with weapons, explosives, and such. Spudinator on there could proably help you a lot, his post on a certain explosive really helped me out in making of some. The bonus is that there all also into spudding and are most likely frequents at either here or SpudTech, so your dealing with people you semi-know.

that would be so bloody cool, imagine how fast it would pe to cut pvc or you could set explosives off from a distance, oh how fun that would be. post pics videos when you make it. try ebay i brought my laser off there it was a laser for a spudgun not sure of the specs tho?

well in general laser pointers are in the 1-5miliwatts range (not powerful at all) at 100 miliwatts you can light a match (if the laser is really close to the match) but if you buy a 100 miliwatts laser form a store it will cost $1000+. im pretty sure ebay doesn't have any 40 watt lasers...

umm... i got onto bcpneumatics about 2 hours ago but now when i try to go there it says "account has been suspended" in big text then under it it sats "Please contact the billing/support department as soon as possible." did i get banned or is the site down?

Those neon sign transformers arn't very powerfull; to get 40 watt output you need abou 600w imput.
Furthermore, one can buy CO2 laser tubes on E-bay; I'm looking at a 40w output tube that need to be filled with CO2, and it's going for 20$.

A 25 milliwatt, 20-25kv powersupply will cost you a lot more.

I can't get on bcpneumatics either right now. I'm having the same problem as irwinner. I'm pretty sure that the site's just down.

i was thinking about using the neon sign transformer with a full wave voltage doubler

Ok, so you have the voltage... but yo don't have the powa, down wit that?

Or maybe you'd like to tell me how you are planning on becoming a powerstation by hooking 80 AAA batteries in series and hooking them up to an alternator?

(I appologize for my attempt at humor)

i did a quick ebay search, and you can ge a 50mw laser for $70 dollars, and it looks like a pen. that would be fun in math class :D

I dont know to much about them but I think they do give off a good amount of radaition. I might be wrong, I bet you can build it but I would advise from it. But If you really want to do it go for it.

80 AAA batterys huh? doesnt it plug into the wall? by "powa" do u mean milliamps?

and there is a hige ammount of radiation so im goning to need to make some sort of ir shild (i have no idea how to do that)

ps - i dont suggest you bring a laser into school, if your school is anything like mine they'll like call the police cause they think its a sniper. (trust me its happened)

Umm there is this stuff, can't remember the name tho......It will come to me, and it blocks all radation. Ill think of it.

Lead, concrete, paper?!
What's with all this talk about radiation? What kind of radiation? Last time I checked, CO2 wasn't radioactive  and you can use a plexiglass panel to block infrared: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Carb ... cility.jpg
Here's a page about a homemade CO2 laser: http://repairfaq.ece.drexel.edu/sam/lasercc2.htm
I've been meaning to build one myself but had the same issues with power supply. I'll stick to a giant solar death-ray if I need to burn something remotely :)
