Thats a go-cart with balls -- virgin! You need more power! And a multi speed transmission, wait, i know, put a motorcycle engine on it. Thats what we did, and it rocks. It also pulled another chain in half yesterday. That makes the 3rd time that happened, using a #40 chain.

That was a cool jump, good thing these carts have ballon tires, or any landing will be a hard one. It's proble got a 5 HP Techumshe with a torque converter. Disk brake.

Believe it or not that 5 HP has more CC's then the 225CC Cobra engine on ours, by about 125/150. It's all in the gearing! The Cobra has a 5 speed transmission, 1 down, 4 up.

yep. my dirtbike engine is a 175 cc, but it a 2-stroke with higher rpm, more compression, and a much much bigger exhaust port. go kart engines are built for durability, not horsepower.

is the engine on the go kart with balls a 4-stroke?

my dirtbike, although a 76', produces in the 22-24 horsepower range because it had excellent compression and it is a 2-stroke. on top of that, I recently found out it has a performance exhaust pipe, installed in the late 70's-early 80's.

it goes 80. :D

Yea it's a four stroke. Who told you you are getting 22-24 Hp? I'm thinking 8 max out of 175cc, and that much out of that it would have to be running around 7,000/8,000 rpm's, strickly because it's a two stroke. The reason the exhaust pipe is built like that is because it's part of the expansion chamber. Wait untill it gets a little pin hole in it,(they all do), you will notice a loss of power. Any how, it's a cool go-cart to run around in.

in metal shop In putting a little weed whacker motor on my 42" flow board (skateboard with 14 wheels...look it up)

nope, from the factory, it was rated at 17 horsepower, and the pipe adds a couple because it breathes freely.

here is the info-

http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/kawasa ... 5_1975.php

oh, and I already got a pinhole, went out to napa, got some exaust epoxy, and now it runs good as new.

edit:you did know that 2-strokes are more powerful than four strokes, right? a 200-250 2-stroke makes about the same power as a 450 4-stroke.

this is why 450's are participating in the 250 catergory in motocroaa, and 250's in the 125 class. 125's are 2-strokes in this case.

oh, and pyro, how are you getting power to all the wheels? that is cool, post pictures when you are finished.

If you look at the size of the exhaust port you will see that it is bigger then the end of the pipe. Ask yourself how does it breath easier/better/more if the exit hole is that small compaired to the exhaust port coming from the engine? That big pipe is part of the workings on a 2 stroke engine. With out it, probly won't start, if it does start it won't run well at all, (no rev/accelaration). From time to time you will have to clean your pipe out, dump a cup of freash gas in it and swish it around and around and around to break up the oil deposits and flush them out. You will also at this time look at the engines exhaust port for a carbon build up. A build up here will score the piston.

here is the info-16.00 HP (11.7 kW)) @ 7000 RPM
Only at 7,000 rpm's.

It make a noticeable differance, doesn't it.

2 strokes have it at a long run because they make all there power at high rpm's -- 6,000 to 9,000, (this is a genral rule of thumb). 4 stroke make there power at lower rpm's good for short runs. Different strokes for different folks!

this is why 450's are participating in the 250 catergory in motocroaa, and 250's in the 125 class. 125's are 2-strokes in this case.
The AMA has simply combined thier classes, it's got more to do the versatility of bikes today then one makeing more power then the other. My cusin raced professenoly(sp) untill a few years ago, he's all ways complain about that same thing, joining the classes!

ok, sorry, did'nt mean to upset you.
but it does still make 16 horspower.

Not upset, i just didn't want to mislead. I wasn't sure you know what i was trying to say. I remember this one, it's a good one. If you guys get lower profile rear tires on the cart it will have more pep. You can also go smaller on the rear sprocket here.

after talking about the details with my shop buddies, it looks like it'd be cheaper to just buy a shitty gas scooter and take the motor, and chain/sprocket setup, and slap that on the back 11" attached to a 10" wheel on the back of the board.

I planned on everything being foot controlled, but I'm gonna make it hand controlled for ease of use

ps. anyone know of any cheap (under 100$ with shipping) scooter for sale? or if thats even a reasonable goal?

yep, you were looking at that auction? that was within 10 miles of my house.

edit: oh, jrrdw, check this out, just for kicks. it is a 4-stroke that makes its power at higher rpm's than my 2-stroke.
