Whats the deal with O-rings and wood?

Maybe guys, the fact that its wood might be the problem. You can O-ring it all you want, but the air goes through the wood... kinda like when you put the wood in water, the water gets in it... But the air is pressurized so it happens faster and the air is going through the wood..... [end_idea}

Yea but VH_man has a wood piston and it works fine.

But i am done with wood pistons, im gonna have to recast my piston cause i did it bad, but this time i am using fiber glass resin.

Yea youre right... but what does it matter? that just serves the same purpose as an equalization hole.. as long as your sealing face is airtight, you shouldn have a problem at all. Wood pistons are definately useable.



.. and yea, remember the PTFE tape on your bolt where you screw the sealing face on, or the air might leak trough the threads...

Ok well i have an update.

I made a fiberglass resin molded piston!!

But..........Its leaking air through the BARREL!!!!

I really dont know whats wrong so i am very upset. I had a hot glue piston work and now this wont?

Ill have pics up in a moment.

EDIT: I Actually wont because i dont have a camera at my disposal.

So i am now casting a hot glue piston. If that doesnt work, Well then i really cant say what is going to happen.

Well it worked before with a hot glue piston.

And i cant say om sure cause its hard to feel.

Hot glue would conform to any minor differences in the sealing face, thats probly why it worked. Good luck

Try putting an olive (the plumbing sort ) on the end of your barrel, I did that on mine and it fixed air leaking out the barrel, because the olives are such a tight fit on the barrel, as long as you push it on so there is about half a mm sticking off the end of the barrel, it will make the end perfectly flat for the sealing face to push against, that should work as the majority of my piston is made of masking tape and it still works perfectly.

Well excuse me for the double post but hot glue was working dandy for me until the hot glue piston decides to just jam itself. So i couldnt get it out. The air would leak past it and i tried poking a stick down so that it would push it out, but even with a hammer that didnt work.

So i had to resort to melting the hot glue piston. It worked but also left a mess so i cleaned that up.

So now i am back to needing another piston and i tried wood again (except a different kind) and it still doesnt want to work.

So any other ideas, because i dont want this gun to be a lost investment.

Wood is porous and air can leak right through the structure of the wood itself. If you screw a piece of rubber to it the air can still leak around the screw and right down the sides of the screw and out the barrel.
You could cut a wooden broom handle and submerse the end in water and blow bubbles of air right through it.

What lube did you use? I find that wd40 on hotglue + air pressure makes the wd40 get realy sticky.
