My brother picked up my 6 ft of 2" DOM sch40 steel barrel today, and my neighbor(the pipe welder) is going to build the chamber this weekend...

This one should be safe to, oh, say 1600 psi....

Have I mentioned I'm OCD, And spudding is addictive in of itself, so please excuse my bazillion projects all at once...lol....

i think mine would be very powerfull if conectet to a 2 inch barrel 30 liter steel chamber tested to 700psi

Sounds great mate. Be sure test the chamber first though, 1600psi is a force to be reckoned with!

if you have that kind of a chamber and barrel why not make it a hybrid

Getting air pressures that high in a big bore pneumatic cannon, you realistically will be limited to using HPA or nitrogen and I'm just not sure you would be able to harness all that power unless the projectile was say a 20 pound steel slug.

Once you got past containing it, triggering it would be your next big challenge. Burst disking would be amazing but also amazingly difficult at those pressures.

I know you didn't say you you were going to run as high as 1600, only rated that high, but really working with any large chambered pressures above 250 psi starts getting a little spooky.

I'm with dudeman...with all that steel why don't you consider a big bore hybrid.

Not many...FEAR is the dominate example. DYI fiddled around with a 2" bore hybrid. There's also a handful of low X Sched 80 big bores around...this one is commonly referred to.

Though I did not build it, I have a rather powerful, small cannon with 2" barrel.

To answer a few quesions:

I'll be running nO2, the barrel and chamber are rated WAY higher than 1600psi, the chamber is going to be rated at 8000 working psi(it's only going to be 12"x4") . This one will be mounted to a steel carriage. It will be actuated by a mechanical piston valve, that will be actuated by a pneumatic cylinder.

Range with a 10oz aerodynamic will be over a mile with 500psi, and close to 2 miles with 1200psi, the muzzle velocity with a saboted golf ball will be just over mach 1, and 1200psi at about 1700fps....

If My neighbor wasn't qualified to build something(he's doing the building, I'm just designing) to withstand the pressures this thing will be capable of, and he has access to a lot of the materiels for free, I would never attempt something this wicked... I'm crazy, not stoopid...

And now that I've got him hooked, he want's to build a punkin chunker... :D

?

Like the ideas, is he a boilermaker or something? Another high pressure gun would be a good addition, and another surprising addition of a new member making good posts and guns.. unlike for example... Rastamuffin anyone?

Sorry, you'll not be going supersonic with Nitrous oxide (and why you even want to use Nitrous Oxide is a mystery) - it's too dense a gas to do that.

Assuming a mistake, and you mean Nitrogen - you might edge supersonic, but you're not going to 1700 fps. (If you're using GGDT, bear in mind, GGDT can give some pretty odd supersonic results, even to the extent that some velocities reported are actually physically impossible.)
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?
