Is this Really possible for a ball valve airgun? It seems quite unlikely, even though he's using 200 psi and a rubber band trigger system. Personally I think its impossible that hes able to put a ball bearing through plywood which looks like over an inch thick. Do you think he's using a burst disk?

Odd looking plywood, appears more like mdf or chip. Maybe it's just his poor camera or my eyes at this time of the night. Judging by the length of the barrel, even with an efficient valve I'd be moved to question the veracity of this video.

That really doesn't look like plywood.

I'm sure it's possible to shoot a ball bearing through plywood with a ball-valve gun (I've gotten some good penetration with mine before), but not with this one.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

I don't think it is regular plywood, however by the look at the exit, it is indeed made from gluing ply's ontop of eachother.

Looks much more solid than regular plywood, Maybe made with laminated hardwoods?

Dave

PS I can definatley imagine that kind of damage from that gun, using about 160 psi I could shoot a ballbearing through 3/4" plywood

You probably already now this but his ball vale is rigged to a spring and a trigger so it has faster opening time then any one could do by hand. That might be why it shoots through plywood.Still ive seen a lot stronger pneumatic cannon here.

Performance of valve types is too much hype tbh.

A ball valve has a much better path of flow than any piston valve once it's open. The pressure and volume of gas also gets to have a say.

As for what a 10" long nail won't go through...

it looks alot like veneered particle board or fiberboard to me http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Particle_board
"i wonder if i can do that a little lowe- oh apparently no"

"If a little is good.....more is better"

My last words: "Ooooo! what does that do!?!?"

I shot a wooden dowel saight through a pumpkin, and some particleboard at 40 psi, for that matter, using my old gun which has a 1/2" ball valve, I didnt watch the video, but dont underestimate (or as George Bush would say "misunderestimate") the strength of a bll valve cannon. I shot this same cannon using a wooden dowel slug 120 ft with 50 psi, so I would say it's entierly possible that that could have been a ball valve cannon.

That gun looks like crap, and the comments he has left lead me to believe he does not have the education he claims to have *COUGH* POCKET *COUGH*

That looks like birch plywood, just veneers of birch in a crisscross grain pattern...

I bet about 85% of the people here could build a better gun with as much or less money, its still funny to see these things though...

EDIT: I left quite a lengthy comment there, after reading up some more on this guy, he really is an idiot. he says he won't build a piston gun because they are too "narrow" and "vulnerable" and refuses to join spudfiles. some people eh?

dumb@$$...

Certainly not. Anyone who was honestly studying engineering would know better. I can say that, because I am studying engineering, and I do know better.

And knowing better, I can safely say he's a muppet.

agreed, I'm surprised you commented on that and not his views towards piston valves, which reveal him as being much more ignorant ... overall I feel I have acquired a new you tube enemy, I can't help but leave angry comments to people like this, if you want a real easy target, check his "advanced" bb gun video...

I took his piston valve ignorance to be a part of "the comments he has left".

His comments and general muppetry (what the hell? Why is muppetry not in the spell checker dictionary?) does not strike me as one who is an engineering student, and suffice to say, I have met a great many.

He seems to hold some form of grudge against Spudfiles, so one must assume that they had an argument here at some point.
I have to say, I far prefer correspondence via Spudfiles than Youtube. When I had inboxes filled with "Plz give me plans lol" kinda stuff, my first advice was always: "Go to Spudfiles".

This guy is an idiot he just doesn`t like spud files because they keep telling him to use different valves instead of the ball valve which releases air to slowly. Honestly i think he can`t make a piston valve and needs to broaden his mind and give it a try.

Fixed your post. :D
Spudfiles is the awesomest website on the web. You have to be an idiot not to like it.
Honestly I think he can't make a piston valve
It wouldn't surprise me, given the inanity of his commenting. Further evidence he's an eejit.

On an unrelated note, your username is highly appropriate for my current situation.
