Hey I'm a Noob but with your design I think due to the small scale the effect would be neglegible. Maybe on a large scale it would be worth trying...that is, dumping a lot of pilot pressure fast. And large scale I mean large like house.
However, if a pilot valve works by dropping pressure (normally to ATM 14.7psi) perhaps you could experiment by improving the way to vent that pilot pressure. Like a mini piston valve perhaps. Or search your favorite pneumatic company for a pilot check valve fitting. They even have piloted checks with speed controls so you could experiment with time delays...
Or, experiment with a chamber - under vacuum from your wife's food vacuum thingie. Put the chamber under vacuum onto the pilot side of the main valve, seal off the chamber under vacuum, then figure a way to trigger it to vacate the pilot chamber of the valve to that magic pressure that allows the valve to open and your spud to fly...
Heck, this darn little jobbie would be much cooler than the blow off valves everyone uses around spuds...plus it is adjustable. It is an SMC one and available as an inline version as well...http://coastpneumatics.org/img/flowcontrols/AS_R.jpg
