Yes, the design was a floating o-ring type.
How much less was the OD of the washer compared to the ID of the o-ring?
IIRC, the o-ring had an ID of 5/8", and floated around ~1/2" diameter washers. That leaves a ~1/16" gap between the inside of the seal and the inner washers.
How much could the o-ring move up and down on the shaft?
The o-ring thickness was 3/32", and the spacing between the upper and lower steel washers was about 1/8".
Ok so the O-ring had plenty of space between its inside and the washer, and also had wiggle room. How much did you have to squeeze your o-ring into the main pump body? was it a perfect fit or did you have to squish it a little? And which is more ideal?
I guarantee a shock pump will not be worthwhile for a tank that large. My vote is definitely with a stirrup pump (aka bike pump). You'll have to use it when you get a chance to rest, but it's the only real option.
So you're saying making a small stirrup pump to use as a hand pump would not be a good idea?

A stirrup pump is good because you can use your weight over a medium area to get high pressure quickly.
If you made a small hand-held stirrup* pump, you would have to make it a much smaller area to get the same pressure, which would happen very slowly.

I tried using a shock pump to fill my smallest cannon, and it took a very long time and was still hard to reach 300psi.

*The name stirrup pump comes from horse-riding, where the stirrups are used to place the feet in to balance. When you stop using your feet to balance the pump, it is no longer a stirrup pump.

Ok so I might as well carry around my bike pump with me to fill it up. I can get to 120 psi fairly quickly.

Yeah pretty much, the best idea Ive heard is to use a 12 volt compressor, with a crank or powered by batteries
That is all.

Using a compressor with a crank is a nice idea but totally defeats the object of using a compressor instead of a pump!

8 AA batteries wouldn't be too hard to fit in a backpack, but I think the compressor itself would be the challenge.

I think he said he didnt want the noise of the compressor, but it would be easier to crank than pump
That is all.

No I'm not doing that, I think I'll just carry my bike pump, it's the only practical idea.

well the most practical idea would be a 12 volt compressor hooked to 8 AA's
That is all.

It's too loud, and I'd have to go buy one, hook up electronics and hoses and more fittings. Too much money. Plus, with my reg that I put on, I don't think I'll need it. I fixed my reg btw :)

not really, those things are p.o.s. for one thing, not to mention that unless you got lithium batteries(or similar) it wouldn't last more than a couple fills

well walmart has them for like 10 bucks and they hook t a schrader and all you need is a few alligator clips, plus one you fire the gun people will know where you are, and the compressor can pump while you run
That is all.

Well you could probably hook up a couple RC batteries from Goodwill and find a cheap charger
That is all.
