LOL, my part of fail (reading on my phone isn't very easy )
According to your animation, I should place 2 pumps one each side... Longer hose and double dead space, or I didn't follow your idea :p

You don't *have* to be pumping in both directions, but if you do you will pump twice as fast :)

Dead space from the hoses is not that critical, your biggest concern should the dead space between piston head and check valve as ultimately this will limit the maximum pressure you can reach.

By the way, don't forget spudamine's two stage pump design: http://www.spudfiles.com/pneumatic-cann ... 18170.html

Too many o-rings, but kind of what I was thinking, half cycle for high pressure fill and other half for low pressure. I didn't mean the hose dead volume but extra hose -> extra fittings -> extra cost :p quite obvious I know where is the dead volume in a pump.

Too many o-rings
Not an excuse when you have a lathe ;)

You can have a single piston, it will just take longer to fill but on the plus side, much less dead volume.

Need to play with the variables for a little, will post a 3D model later.
For now, I have a calculus test to worry about.
Anyway thanks JSR, watch this place

Hey man, would something like this not be easier? The large piston would be better off being almost balanced at first so it allows the front area to get to a reasonable pressure before compressing it but its an old drawing and I can't be bothered to edit it for now... Of course you would still need a shop compressor.
