30 bar 435psi pengun

Hey,
i want to share one of my projects with you, it's a pengun made out of a ........PEN!



I can pump it up to 435psi (max of my pump;-)). It's got a tiny QEV inside, triggered by a shrader valve. The cap hides the valve. It has got a small pin inside, that releases the air, when you press it onto the valve.



The barrel is a 2mm aluminium tube. It can fire small steel balls (from ball bearings), toothpicks and nails.

Awesome design! Where did you find ammo small enough to shoot out of that tiny barrel? And what did you construct your piston out of?

The piston is a small cylindric piece of rubber.
As ammo i'm using toothpicks or steel balls from ball bearings. Nails would also work

Any idea about the velocity it hits at 435 psi?

I'm wondering what pressure such a ball pen will hold before bursting;) what do you think?

You know that pens are not rated for pressure, right? If that pen were to fail while you were holding it your hand would be very badly injured. If it's not pressure rated, do NOT use it.

I'm guessing the mini QEV is nothing more than a solid rubber disc.
That's what I've used on my coaxials.

@TrollingCluckster good point, but really nothing will happen if it blows up in your hand. It's way too little volume and energy:) i'm sure
@BartSkillZ The QEV is homemade, it's just a short piece of a solid 6mm alu rod with a piece of bicycle tube epoxied onto it as a barrel seal.
