Early this moring I was browsing the forums when I saw Ant's "old" airsoft gun, the hammer valve on his gun inspired me to build my own hammer valve gun, but one that could be easily mass produced without modifying any parts. So I started thinking.... and then I thought of a check valve, it was the exact same thing as a hammer valve with out the bolt and striker attached, so I set out to ACE with $15 and bought the parts, It works perfectly, the only thing is right now it doesnt have a trigger, I just pump it up pull back the hammer like a pinball thingy and let go. Wela! a cheap easy and simple hammer valve for the general spudding community. (I'll put up pictures later today or tommorow but I have the diagram)

Thats a pretty good idea. All you have to do is hook it up to a motor and tripod and you get an auto turret.

thats a good idea you have there, you could use a sear system for the trigger.

damn. I'm also in the process of making a hardware store hammer valve. you beat me to the punch i guess. Oh well, mines inline. looks sweet btw

Nice... but could someone possibly tell me the advantages of a hammer valve? I hear people talking about them all the time, but I do not know why they are so significant...

Small burst of air rmich,reserves your chamber/tank air.So you can get multiple shots from one tank charge instead of it all being used at once.Great for semi-fully auto gun designs.

Hey good job there. I made something similair a while ago when I didnt understand the physics behind it and i build it with a large area poppet (check valve) and it was nearly impossible to open at 60psi. Just wondering what size is the face of your check valve?

Excellent, and beautifully simple - love it. Do you guys still have those cap guns over there? They look like revolvers (but don't revolve) and they feed paper strips of caps? If you butchered one of those by removing the barrel and cylinder it'd give you a nice trigger, hammer and pistol grip you could use for firing your hammer valve.

The NYE party I attended was "mafia" themed, while there I appropriated a Luger based cap gun from one of the more inebriated patrons, I'll see if I can take it apart...

You'd have to beef up the hammer spring methinks. The impact needed for setting off a paper cap isn't much.

Presumably if it was one of those metal heavy duty revolvers it would have enough cojones to knock open a blowgun valve if you weakened the latter's return spring.

I reckon it'd be more than enough to set off a hammer valve, I remember getting my finger trapped in one when I was a little kid, and it left me with a nice bruise under my nail for several weeks till it fell off (the nail not my finger).
