God-Beast

This is a beast.
I shoot at 40psi, and it shoots a couple hundred yards with a lot of force. Ammunition is a hacky sack

Edit by MrC: I've linked you to the rules before, next time read them properly. It is against the rules to post a topic title in ALL CAPS.

I REALLY like the mounted system for it, but you could totally slap an inline valve on that mofo and make it better (faster, more powerful)

Not necassarilly saying that putting a sprinkler valve on it would make it beast though. That's pretty much your BASIC design wen it comes to pneumatics, although it does look nice for the basic design.

You should see about adding a breech loading system, or summat like that on it.

Other than that, job well done.

Can with have some more details please?

I don't see a hacky-sack going 'a couple hundred yards' at only 40psi with that cannon, sorry.

Neither do I, especially with the flow choke after your valve. Replace the ball valve with a sprinkler valve then you could get some satisfactory results.

Edited for grammar.

I've got both good and bad news for you:

Bad news:
This is definitely NOT a beast. Ball valves suck big time and the barrel is way larger in diameter then the valve and piping used.

Good news:
Impressed with this?
Well, your just getting started and things can only get better now!
Build a better gun (better valve) and you will be amazed of the power it will have.
If you like this cannon, and think its a beast, then what will you think of a real beast? :)

EDIT:
That bell reducer.
Is it pressure rated?

I agree; It would be nice to know the length/diameter of both the chamber and the barrel.

I don't see a hacky-sack going 'a couple hundred yards' at only 40psi with that cannon, sorry.
I disagree; - Guessing at both and playing with GGDT ( 40psi/ Generic Valve / 100-500ms Valve Open Time/ Flow Coef from 70-90... I get upwards to 200fps (136 mph)

A hackey-sack is typically 4-5cm in diameter / 50 grams ... I could imagine that flying pretty far.

I DO agree, that most will mistake "yards", for feet - when bragging about performance of their launcher.

Considering this is at 40psi with what looks like a 1" ball valve and a very short barrel, I don't see a hackysack going more then one hundred meters. Sure a couple of hundred feet, but not yards

Also the hackysacks I know usually have holes in them which I don't see helping with drag. I'd think the ball valve would be only half open by the time the hackysack is gone, with higher pressures, longer barrel and a spring loaded valve, sure a couple hundred yards could be possible.

I'm not here to get into debate, so i'll leave it at that. Unless the OP provies some better specifications and/or clarification.

BTW, just noticed I typed 'with' instead of 'we' in my original post. I swear i'm dyslexic at times. :)

sorry, i meant feet, not yards, typo on my part.

i just recently tried a sprinkler valve on a new canon I built and wasn't really impressed, I still have to toy with it though

Did you modify it?

i didn't modify it yet, but i did get it to work REALLY well on my small cannon, i'm going to try to put it on the god beast and see how it works

Well I put on the sprinkler valve.

Shot it with the manual switch. It was a definate improvement. Sounded a hell of a lot better.

Then I decided to work the solenoid, that sucked.

So a couple of days ago i decided to mod the valve and use a blowgun trigger and OMG!!!! It is insane.

Even better, I dented the barrel a bit towards the end. I fixed it as best I could, but intstead of lack of awesomeness, it added hopup to the squash ball and hacky sack I am using as a projectiles.

Photos coming soon of the final thing. Thanks for all the input

if you think a sprinkler is that good then you would have a heart attack and die if you fired a piston cannon :D

( for you next gun try making a small piston valve. Check out my mini in the showcase for some ideas or anyone elses)

I'm still trying to grasp the concepts, but thanks for the input
