modifying another type of sprinkler valve.

well for starters this is the valve,

I bought it from home depot obviously. Now if i can only modify it....

top screws off instead of being held in with screws... the solenoid and everything is attached in one chunk directly above the spring, rod, and diaphragm. When taken off its just a spring and the diaphragm. hope these pictures help.
Is it still just modded by drilling a hole in the side, tapping it and putting in the hose connector?

sorry pictures are reversed lol. read from bottom up up...

I'm sure this valve can be modded in a normal way.
Find the hole that is used to vent the pilot volume to the barrel side when the solenoid is activated and plug it.( JB weld, epoxy)
I have a feeling it's right in the center of the diaphram.

Then remove the solenoid and tap in a fitting to accept a blowgun or other type of pilot valve.

I think your assessment of the pilot hole is correct. Check the arrows for flow. If the center of the diaphragm is the outlet instead of the inlet, you are probably right.

With the electric solenoid on the center instead of the edge, this may have a reverse flow from normal valves. The electric vents to the center instead of the the edge, so if you fill the small pilot at the edge, it will never close and hold pressure. This one may be modified by sealing the small hole in the center of the diaphragm and leave the edge hole open.

Remove the electric solenoid as usual for the blowgun trigger.

The bleed on the side that water enters the valve from should not be plugged as this is where the pressure comes from that closes the valve. On most sprinkler valves, this is in the center. It looks like this one is reversed.

I recently had a problem with this type of valve. They are really hard to tap into, and the space between the brass nipple and the valve top had to be filled in with epoxy. It ended up not actuating (too little pilot volume?).

I have modded 3 of this valve i can get pictures later, i had a blowgun pilot which i tapped and epoxied into the solenoid hole, the only other thing i had to do was pour some epoxy down that metal tube.
