I am soon to be building an automatic gun and need a good projectile. bb's are too small, bouncy balls are too expensive, marbles are too dangerous, and paintballs might work. What size pipe do paintballs fit into well? I can use any projectile that fits into a pipe up to 3/4". Any suggestions will be helpful, thanks

Paintballs fit great in 3/4 sch 120 PVC pipe.

How are going to make an automatic gun?
Because if you are planning on using a QEV+Pop-off combo, its not going to work with paintballs.

Edit: I would suggest lead fishing weights, its what Subsonic Spud did, and it turned out great...

No, I'm not using a qev pop off, and I don't have axcess to any schedule 120 pipe. Would 3/4" cpvc possibly work? I don't believe it would have to be a perfect fit, but I don't want it to have a lot of blow-by either lead fishing weights might be a little small, and a little dangerous and expensive, thanks for your help anyway though.

You still didn't answer my question... To be able to help you I must what your design is, any diagrams?

I think it is JeepKahn who has some extra sch 120 pipe, he would probably be willing to sell. But if you don't want to use that, try to find 1/2 sdr 13.5 or 3/4 sch 80. If you can find the half inch pipe, it would be your best choice.

If he has trouble finding odd size pipe, jawbreakers work well in 3/4 inch pipe. I got mine at Winco Foods in the bulk foods section. There is a thread dedicated to ammo ideas here; http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/ammo-ideas-t1724.html

jaw breakers might work but they seem like they would stick up the pipe, paintballs would work too but they still wouldn't be optimal, the make kind of a mess. How much are you charging for the sched. 120 pipe?

paper cuts? sorry I don't want my idea taken, not that you would, but just playin' it safe. so I'm not going to give up my idea, not that it's that great or revolutionary or anything, heck it might have been done before, but I haven't seen it, so I'm not giving up my design

You have every right to do so but it's really against the spirit of this forum. We're here to share ideas, criticise them, improve them, build them. I recently discovered that an idea of an automatic it took me literally years to arrive to was already patented it 1927, it's hard to come up with something original.

Unless you have a commercial interest in preserving the secrecy of your design I see little point in keeping it to yourself. If someone else does "steal" it, you will doubtless be credited with coming up with the idea, if it works ;)

Okay what fits well in different sizes of copper pipe? also I may be able to use 1" pipe for the barrel. Sorry, I come up with a sketch of it, but then I read the article about the summer contest and I don't want to give away any information. it's not going to be that revolutionary or anything, but Idon't think it's been done before.

Old capacitors. Take any old radio, computer monitor, power supply apart (be careful of residual high voltages), and you'll see hundreds of em. They won't do much damage due to their weight, but they're perfectly cylindrical and will make a good fit with some tape. Plus they're free.

Sorry TurboSuper, I meant they had to be spherical, and I've been thinking, I may use some larger pipe and possibly shoot golf balls, but then again they are pretty dangerous. What other balls (dont sugest raquet balls or tennis balls or my balls) fit well in large bore pipe? I may be able to use large bore pipe, but I may not be able to either, any more help is good, thanks,
