Need input on this valve

I drew this up today, does everything seem right? If you need clarification, just ask, because I didn't label everything. It should be self-explanatory though. It is very similar to another diagram on this site.

Looks good, I just dont get how the spacer fits, is it part of the piston or is it glued in the pipe?

It will probably be electrical tape or something similar wrapped around the one inch pipe with some lube because 1.25" PVC fits loosely over 1" PVC.

Looks good but i think you will need a bumper or else you will crack your tee. Other than that it looks great, cant wait to see it.

I think the washer holding the neoprene seal in place should be a larger diameter (but just smallest enough to fit inside the PVC without hitting) or the neoprene seal can / will be torn away from the piston face.

Mine washer about that size was fine but I was only using it at 60 so I guess it depends on the pressure

I would make the washer as big as possible without the piston "jamming" (tilting when going forward slightly and catching, allowing air to escape).

Other than that, I suggest a bumper like Mr.Sandman said.

yeh, though i'd have the barrel stopping just after the start of the 90 degree part. Not in the middle of it.

As is, it creates more turbulence and less flow.

Looks vaguely familiar.

@ Sandman...The o-ring as a bumper has been working for mine over MANY shots...no signs of any type of failures.

Yes Gippeto I believe it was your drawing I modeled it after.

Where do you recomend to place the bumper? Or should I just go with an O-ring bumper?

Also, what is the easiest way to make O-ring grooves without a lathe or dremel?

And that washer wasn't really drawn to scale, I try to find as big a washer as possible. Thanks though.

EDIT: I made some changes to the drawing. The piston is longer and the barrel doesn't go as far into the tee for more flow.

as to the o-rings, a drillpress, drill-in-a-vice, table saw... knife...


A while back, tech posted a video about his floating O-rings. You will really want floating rings; they are amazing as far as friction goes.

It doesn't matter....tons of ideas on this site to choose from. That's why they get posted. Everyone puts their own twist on things, sometimes it comes out better...somtimes not. That's just how it goes.

But;

Why the "freak"in HUGE increase in pilot volume?

Ummm the pilot volume didn't increase that much... what do you suggest change to lower it? I want to make it as good as possible.

Edit- I was thinking about getting some 3/4"PVC inside the one inch to lower the volume and maybe even fill that up with some epoxy then drill a hole in it for the air to pass... I'll draw it up when I get home. No Google SketchUp at school :lol:

EDIT2- So here it is, the purple is the 3/4 pipe jammed inside the 1" to lessen the volume and the green is still epoxy. I put dotted lines on the spacer to represent the shape the epoxy will be molded in to make room for the bolt and washer on the back and also to lower the pilot volume... which is amazingly little now. BTW the 3/4 pipe inside of the one inch pipe goes all the way to the end of the 1" pipe inside the female adapter on the right, along with the epoxy for minimal pilot volume. What do you think? I need to know also if the small diameter of the hole to the pilot valve is too little for flow... :P
