How to make an Air cannon sound cooler/louder?

Any tricks on how to make your air gun sound cooler or louder than it normally should?

My only guess is to shorten the barrel so the air is not getting muffled as much from the inside of the barrel, but I need a long barrel for my needs.

Higher PSI will make it sound louder, although I would like a solution that doesn't impact the function that much, just makes it louder.

I think it comes down to simply having excess air leaving the barrel at as high of a pressure as possible. Basically, I think you need an inefficient cannon. Also, maybe you can leave the cannon as it is and launch a light weight projectile. That should allow the air to escape at a higher speed and maybe it will make a louder noise. With my combustion cannon I notice that golf balls shoot louder than soda cans, so maybe gas velocity plays a significant role. Not sure though without experimenting with it.

Try to cover the muzzle of the firing cannon with a piece of tape. It is not a question of introducing anything, rather of obstructing the muzzle of the barrel with plastic tape. When you fire, with its standard ammunition, the tape will soften and the projectile will come out freely, but that causes a pretty loud boom. I used to do it in the past, when I was a kid, with my 4.5mm spring rifle, and I would obstruct the muzzle with a small piece of gum.

In some countries you would want to make it quieter than attract attention to nosey parkers who would complain or ring the cops. Alright to make it louder if you live in the middle of nowhere. I think the ideal cannon would be a quiet system, thats cool.

Adding a cone shape to the muzzle works very well in airsoft:

It looks like a cone shape directs the sound instead of amplify it. I would like a solution that amplifies the sound for all parties, including the ones behind it firing the gun.

Maybe a microphone at the end of the barrel but thats kind of too cheesy.

In my experience it amplifies the noise significantly for the shooter too.

I'll try it next time.

The picture looks like theres more things going on, such as holes in the cone, and it looks like its disconnected from the barrel? While also being in a cylinder.

Yes, I've done that by mistake while making a dummy silencer for looks, and made a loudifier by mistake, a piece of 1" PVC pipe works really good.

Does just a cylinder at the end work? If you could post an image of your setup I would appreciate it.

Yes, just an open cylinder worked for me, 2 or 3" long.

The example I showed you is adjustable, with holes in the cone that allow you to vary the amount of noise. When the holes are completely plugged it makes the most noise.

As farcticox1 said adding an open cylinder (sort of like a silencer with the front endcap removed) will also increase noise.

Interesting Device for when you want to scare off small-time and unarmed thieves. Do you know where they are bought commercially? I'd like to show people that they have an air deterrent project and they need to increase the noise from the markers.

Oh yeah! beautiful machine, and it works excellent! but my question goes a different way.
There is a user of a forum in my country, who tries to increase the sound of measured, purchased marker weapons, of the commercial ones, to increase the deterrent power of this type of weapon. They make absolutely nothing, they buy everything, and my concern is to give this person a device that is already manufactured, to buy, and then use, just that.
The noise cannon is a work of engineering, and creation, inexhaustible I think, for people who only buy and use what is made. I'm not saying it's wrong, but what we do here, what you see around these sides, is a totally different game from buying and using. :)
