Hey all, well I've decided to mount a simple red dot scope on my rifle... and I was wondering, why not just buy a scope rail, screw it into your gun and use that? ONly wondering cuz i saw a thread about this and bboymatty said use a piece of metal sign.... I think i can just use a scope rail, but what do you guys think?

Well, you could also just buy a spudgun, or paintball gun for that matter, and be happy... but imagine that great feeling of sucess of realising you have made your own one for a fraction of the price, that is just as good.
Its your decision though

If you have one laying around, then it would work. It would look nice and clean that way also, you just don't quite get that homemade feel like yeti talked about.

They're expensive bits of metal, sure you can just buy one but it's much cheaper to make your own - plus you've gone through the trouble of making your own launcher, then you're going to buy a rail ready made?
Though of course if you can afford it, why not

Why spend the cash?
Few spudguns have enough accuracy that having a precision scope rail will help at all.
Half an hour of fiddling will create something of high enough quality, gives you the satisfaction of a job well done, and saves you a packet.
Sounds like the better choice to me.

Scope rails/Dovetail rails look easy enough to me, you could mkae some out of PVC sheet.
1. Cut the sheet to the desired length and width(3/8" etc)
2. Mount the PVC sheet on another support(small piece of wood etc)but make sure you put spacers between the wood and the PVC sheet like a washer or two so the scope can slide on and off easily enough.
3. Mount the support with PVC sheet dovetail and your scope to your gun how ever you want.

i used one from the top of my UTG shotgun because it was easier to use it without it anyway. it fit perfectly aorund 1 inch pipe by friction, and yay.......
if youre gonna do that, i do reccomend it, unlike most here apparently.
making your scope accurate increases the accuracy of your rifle, no matter how accurate the rifle ACTUALLY is.

If it's your first scope, then I'd do it. I'm also making a high accuracy rifle, and as long is it's somewhat inexpensive, I'd do it. Although you don't get that great feeling of accomplishment, it should improve your gun's accuracy, and that's what I'm going for.
