I've tried a bbq liter with no luck. So now I'm trying this Power-Mite Prod that I got from my father.

This thing will not arc. Its kinda old and I thought I would have a chance with it. I cleaned it up with no luck. I opened it up and tried just the bare wires with the same result. It just cuts off when they get to close. How could I mod this to work?
I can't get a stun gun since I live in Michigan.
What are my other options?
This is my first spud cannon so its a learning process for me.
Help with igniter?

You can contact www.bcarms.com , and he can hook you up with what you need. May be some cost involved, but he builds some very stunning ignition boxes!

You can always move to a state that allows stun guns... like Idaho. We also have a few potatoes here.
Many people can sell you an ignition source that incorporates all the components of a stun gun, just in a different shell (no outside contact points). This way, your ignition source is still legal.

No pun intended im sure
Anyway someone else tried something similar. Since its only for prodding not stunning and 250lb hunk of meat/person it only produces about 7,000volts I hear....You need about 12,000 for a decent spark.
Edit: My bad, looks like SB15 knows his cattle prods

Do you know if it actually works?
No its not a good idea to remove resistors, they won't be in there to limit the voltage.

What if I was to build my own?
Something like this? lol

That method of modding a camera flash ciruit won't work because it still won't jump a gap because the voltage is to low (300 volts). check out this link if you want to use a camera flash http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4611&.
Or you could also go to a neon sign store and see if they hav any neon transformers that are battery operated (the place were i live had a replacment transformer for a neon license plate light for a car which ran off of 12 volts.) Or you could just buy an ignition box from BC.

try taking apart one of those big igniters used for camping . then get the clicker out of it. that is the thing that is under the red button that u push. there will be two wires. drill two little pilot holes in ur cannon. put one wire in each pilot hole. make the wires about 2 cm apart so they produce just enough spark. then when u press the little button the wires will produce a spark. this will work. it worked for me . well but bbq igniters work for me also. good luck.Bobbyd wrote:Nope. Even with it opened up and the bare wires very close it won't spark.
What if I removed some resistors? lol...
