I'm sure I'm not the first person to link this video but I haven't seen anybody else post it and have seen it at least a couple dozen times searching for random stuff on youtube. It looks like a cool little project but I'm wondering what the labor and cost would be like and if it isn't terribly out of reach for one of those, "I'll get to it" projects.

would be pretty cool. if they had automated the loading process it would have recieved an A+ in my book, but they did 90% of it.... kinda cool i guess.

That's awesome. But yeah, I do think a higher capacity for fire would be better. Maybe add more barrels... I might have to try to make a mini version of that on a RC car!

that thing is sick! The launchers themselves aren't incredibly advanced, but the control system is awesome. To make this thing really ultimate, maybe a camera could be mounted on it, with a separate receiver, and the controls hooked up to a wireless transmitter. Remote controlled destruction

That was actually more of a robotics project than a potato gun. He called it an "automatic" but I think that is a misnomer in terms of a real automatic. I would call it an automated potato gun. They were actually fairly basic combustions...one spark, no fan, no air inlets that I could tell other than the rear clean out....definitely basic and definitely not automatic.

The thing that most interested me was their use of fuel injectors. I have been contemplating experimenting with them some. It's nice to see someone has successfully used them. It seems their metering system was just the amount of time the injector was open...no way to tell if they had the propane regulated and at what pressure.

IDK much about them but modern cars have more sophisticated computers than the moon lander.
Looked like a sensor similar sort of. But on second viewing I think it was just a timed spray of propane (1.5 sec.s)

The actual mount turret is not too complex either.
Someone could take apart the simplest remote toy car and wire it to bigger motors.
It's only two controls, Up /down and left/right.
Convert from left/ right steering and forward/ reverse maybe. pretty simple.

It would be cool if these were installed in bank drive throughs.
Or maybe one on my front door.
Hmmm, some day... I'd mount it to a flame thrower or mac-10 though. 8)

EDIT: Now that I think about it, a camera mount already swivels.
Just need a sturdy mount and trigger controller bolted on!

Yeah I don't know either...would need a smart automotive tech to help dissect that stuff. I'm sure it's not that difficult to comprehend. Their operation wouldn't need to be nearly as complex as it is while running an automobile.

yeah, i know the guns themselves aren't advanced at all but as far as the automated mounting system, it's advanced as hell. looks pretty intimidating too.

it needs some chamber fans, some awesome sights, possibly an auto-loader, and a kick ass paint job.

When they demonstrated the control system, it seemed like the motors were having trouble moving the turret around with any sort of speed. Also, this kind of system would be much better utilized with a pneumatic autogun or artillery piece, unless it utilized an automated reload system, as described above. Such a system wouldn't be difficult to implement, as if I'm not mistaken, they used micro controllers to control the system. I've wanted to learn how to work micro controllers for a while and do stuff with them.

I agree, for a mounting system that nice, they should have gone with a pneumatic system so they could have more accurate shots and meter the chamber pressure more efficiently. It would also allow for an automated reload system (like you said).

And yeah, I'm pretty sure they used micro controllers, if they didn't, there project box would be in a truck bed lol.
