Here at spudfiles we don't really "believe" in giving out plans to people we are here to hep you design your cannon not spoonfeed you and give out free material. We cant tell what your going to do with the info we have given you so that's why we don't hand out plans. Look at some cannons in the showcase and do some research and then draw up some plans and post them on here and we'll try to give you some feedback on them.

Very true, very true.

However, you got to admit, it's a beautiful thing when you see noobs helping noobs.

@ Maniac, regardless of whether or not you believe in it the plans were posted on the How To forum so why not use them if you want to?[/quote]

You will get sick of doing that Captain Crash :D Its not that the plans can't be used, its that most members here search to find stuff and think that everyone should do the same :) Thats why Pete put them there in tthe first place, so new members didn't have to be spoonfed.

Just to move on the discussion here, a quick summary:

1) We like to educate our members. So that one day they can go on to create bigger and better things and educate the new members.

2) They key to education is understanding. Plans help with this, but only so much. You end up asking 'how does this fit in there' or 'where do you buy this from' etc etc. By reading through the Showcase sections and seeing the final product, the author will some times describe the build and any problems you might come into if you tried to replicate it.

3) But first you need to understand what all the parts are, why they are there and what they do. This comes from reading theory and notes written on the forum and in the Spudwiki (top of the page, have a look).
Once you know what everything does, and why it's there and how it does it, you can then start to visualise how to build your own cannon with help of the cannons already posted on the site.

These steps allow you to think for yourself, understand what you are doing and why everything is the way it is.

Plans may build you a cannon, but you could end up overlooking bits and pieces, making mistakes because you don't know what you are doing and maybe end up hurting yourself.

The plans on Spudfiles are only guides. We hold no liability whatsoever if you follow these plans. They are meant for you to get a better understanding, not so you can make a cannon with basic knowledge and without knowing what you really are doing.

Sorry for the lengthy post, welcome to Spudfiles. :)
