What you have to remember is that the name was created waaayyy back when DR was tinkering with pop-off triggered sprinkler valves instead of burst disks. Arguably, we could change the name if desired, but I think another name should be chosen besides "Advanced Combustion."

Let's change the name to stoichometrically metered multi atmosphere combustion cannon.

How about "amplified combustion cannons"

The acronym would be cool. "ACC"

@JSR

That is a very good self portrait! :D

Could you please do a colored chalk self portrait with slightly better detail?

Where is the "wodka" bottle?

That was the "family friendly" politically correct version, this is what the batcave actually looks like :D

Anyway, this is drifting *slightly* off topic :)

I agree - the principle of operation is mostly related to the combustion cannon, but the principles of construction, such as a valve and a chamber that holds pressure, as well as the need for compressed air, is more related to the pneumatic cannon.
I recall that at the time the hybrid was concieved, many spudders had a strong preference for either pneumatic or combustion cannons, and fuel metering was also quite new, so the construction of a hybrid introduced a lot of new principles for spudders from both camps.

We can have a lot of fun with acronyms, but replacing a simple word with a more complicated one will never catch on. Especially not with us old-timers ;)
