Camloc on hybrid

I have been pretty happy with my 1" EMT barreled hybrid, but want a bigger bore so I am building a 1-1/2" EMT barreled hybrid. The union I used on the 1" one has worked well, but I have to carry big channel locks to tighten it enough to avoid leaking at the burst disk. So I am planning to go with a camloc on the new gun and may retrofit the existing one that way as well.

I see that the camlocs are generally rated at 250 psi for the aluminum, brass, or stainless ones. I have a hard time believing that the stainless ones are not capable of much higher pressures than the aluminum. Is it a design issue that limits the pressure rating, like maybe an issue with the seal? Is the rating just kept at 250 because the usage they are typically applied to doesn't require more?

I see that the stainless ones are a lot more expensive so I guess I'd rather go cheaper. Is there any reason to spend the extra money for stainless on a gun that will probably be used mostly at 4-5X and might possibly be fired at 8x or so,

Given the fact that in a hybrid it only has to tolerate high pressure for a brief instant, being a bit nonchalant with rated pressures is not likely to cause injury. The worst that can happen is that your barrel will blow out

Oh, one other thing...

I see folks using camlocs with the male fitting on the barrel and others with the female fitting on the barrel. Is there any reason it matters which way you do that?

I have used the black composite "plastic ones" with no trouble. Obviously metal would be much safer and superior of a material. I usually put the female on the launcher as, males are cheaper. You can then attach multiple barrels paying less for each adapter. Also, it seems a bit less clunky with the male on the barrel. It's cleaner to make a breach loader that way also.
