Large hybrid

Harness the power of precision mixtures of pressurized flammable vapor. Safety first! These are advanced potato guns - not for the beginner.

Hello I have been here before but lost access to my account so I created a new one.
I recently decided to get my hybrid up and running again now that I am done with small children and have built myself a workshop.
The plan is to get this gun on a stand on a trailer so that it can be aimed and fired much easier and be portable. This would also allow me to fire more exotic projectiles than candles as right now there is no possibility to get a real safe background.

I just wanted to say hello and post a video of my first shots in quite a few years.
Maybe someone can guess who I am? :)

Shots taken at 8x

Yes, i was quite sure you would be the one to point it out.
It is awesome to see users from 2008 still active!
You could probably also give me some insight on the benefits of pulling a vacuum in the barrel, as you seem to have tested everything..
I know of those ping pong vacuum cannons reaching 860m/s, but would I see a real benefit with a heavier projectile? It sure would be nice to break 1km/s with a golf ball, if at all possible.

Well, big fuck-off hybrid, Norway... it wasn't exactly a mystery worthy of Sherlock Holmes

Fantastic shooting area you have there!

There aren't many of the original "cadre" left as regulars but you'll be amazed how many familiar faces still check in from time to time.

I never did it myself however I can tell you that it is probably not necessary with a high mix hybrid.

Hypervelocity guns evacuate the barrel in order to eliminate air drag while the projectile is accelerating but these are usually shooting in the range of 3 to 6 km/s.

1 km/s is basically WW2 Panther Tank main gun velocity, my guess is it would be overkill to use vacuum.

Yes, once I get the gun mobile and aimable I can do whatever I want. I plan on getting it up to 40x mixes once its more practical, and more if nothing has failed yet. Depends on how much pressure I can get before ignition with a spark gap becomes impractical.

I get what you are saying, I might not get any real velocity gain from it. That being said, the entry fee for evacuating the air from the barrel is low on my setup and i might play with it at a later time.

You know what the velocity/energy record on the forums are these days? Ofcourse we exclude VERA, that thing aint no spud gun!
Something tells me Larda might be in possesion of the velocity trophy..

Good to see you back here. I'm pretty sure Larda still holds the record for the most extreme hybrid, barring the circus man-caliber sized cannon VERA of course. No way anyone passes VERA in the energy category without some serious resources and permits and all kinds of crap. It's a 2X hybrid the size of a giant motor home, and since it's a low mix hybrid, it will always be a giant spud gun in my book =). I wonder how far it would launch a pig or something. A non living pig of course.
Anyway, glad you're back! Good to see you still active in the hobby.

I don't visit often any more, but the week you posted this thread happened to be the same week I decided to check the forum for the first time in several months.

I feel old too, my registration date here is now half a lifetime ago. Wish I still had that youthful energy to spend a lot of my spare time building guns and other devices. It's a different world and a different internet now though with a lot more surveillance and paranoia, so even if I was up to building stuff I probably wouldn't be sharing it online.

Not for several years. I used to have him on facebook before I deleted my account. Maybe you can still find him there.
