Ok so I got sick of unscrewing and re loading every shot when I was doing single shots, so I came up with this mag system which can hold 10 rounds at the moment (only because I wanted to keep it compact)
Now between shots, all I need to do is push the rod and it loads a bb into the breech and doesnt allow any more bbs through unless its pushed again due to the o-ring seal.
I considered going for a bolt action sort of loading system, but that would still require me to handle the ammo between shots, which I find to get tedious..
This method is working a treat and Im very happy with it.
:)

Heres a diagram, should explain what I mean.

EDIT: Oops I forgot to add in the pic that there is a spring pushing the plunger onto the bb's to maintain a tight seal with the bb about to be loaded and the retaining o ring.. I did this to help with efficiency and try to minimize air leakage

Actually, a modified one of theese could be used in coaxial piston guns. This thing FTW.

Could become a very good design with some tweaking.

The seal at the very back is unnecessary. You need the head of the plunger to seal. If air gets past the plunger head there is a performance loss, and that won't change with the o-ring seal at the very back because some airflow is already diverted and doesn't have time to reach the end of the clip before the bb exits the barrel.

I've been thinking about this lately, in spite of the fantastic "burst disk level" performance that detent type launchers offer, when it comes to repeaters the barrier I see is the next projectile blocking the breech before the first has enough time to leave the barrel.

One could make something likethis and manually cycle the bolt, but that will not give you true semi-auto (one shot per trigger pull).

The solution I was pondering was fitting a "blow forward" pin that would block off the magazine, allowing only the shot in the breech to be fired, in my head it looks something like this, though in practice I know this wouldn't work because the force of the projectile from the magazine on the pin would likely skew and jam it - but it would probably work for a gravity fed hopper. The diagram shows trigger open, but not enough pressure to pop the projectile. After this happens, the pin should spring back allowing the next projectile to feed.

Essentially it's similar to what Jimmy had proposed here based on what's used in RC warship combat.

If the static friction of the next BB in the magazine can overcome the force of the higher pressure in the magazine due to the venturi effect then you should be good, eggs.

I would also consider casting a "ramp" at the end of the magazine and running it along the bottom or top of the barrel to save space as well. Basically just add the same o-ring detent above your ramp.

@jsr
dude, I think that you should use an air cylinder ( yeah I know, you didn't expect that, did you?? :D )

Just ahve a look at your diagram... mount a single acting air cylinder and hook up its inlet with the chamber... as soon as teh chamebr fills with air it would expand and block the inlet....

flow restriction and inertia would guarantee that it wouldn't retract instantly the gun fires

You mean something like this? Or are you going to force me to buy a commercial air cylinder :P

that's right... though you understand that it would be better if the mag port was closer to the detent... not need to block the flow, the cylinder might as well force the next round back to the magazine tube

who said you need a comercial air cylinder... get a piece of pipe, use epoxy to build a piston, add an oring and voila! you is has an air cylinder

Agreed.

Or, better still, use a ready made piston ;)

The concept reminds me of what al-xg had thought up a while ago, as well as the valveless machinegun idea.
