Well guys its been a while since I've posted something stupid end of year school finals and stuff.

I just got a crosman quest 1000x. click meh

When I took off the sights so they weren't in the way of the scope I discovered the end of the barrel was threaded!1!!11shift1omg!

That means its time for a nice bad ass silencer. 8) Its not that loud as it is now but it still scares away potential game.

I'm not sure what kind of threads they are but the front sight has the female ones so I may build the silencer and then use the front sight as internal threads on the silencer.

i have the same rifle it kicks as$ doesn't it, shoot a can of silly string or foam carpet cleaner.

btw, gammo or crosman, not sure which, make these pellets that are gold coated and i chronographed them at 1267 fps, that is supersonic pellet right there, there is no reason at all you need them to go that fast but why not

I would recommend actually hitting the potential game to alleviate this issue ;)

By that I mean other targets in the area.

The pellet loses velocity pretty fast as soon as it exits the supersonic stream (it will happen very fast because its barely on the fringe at exit velocity) the pellet will tumble and lose accuracy. I believe the ammo your talking about are gamo raptors.

Well yesterday I was shooting and I went to break the barrel and at about half draw the stock cracked in about three places from the trigger guard to the front tip. I called the place I got it at and it looks like I will be able to get a new stock for it for free. :) I won't be telling them that the split is probably my fault for shooting without the trigger guard on.

The thing with springers is that most of the noise comes from the piston impacting the chamber and spring twang and there's no real way of eliminating this noise. It is worth pointing out though that the perceived sound signature is much greater for the shooter as all this action is happening right next to your ear.

Have someone else shoot it while you're standing 50 yards away, you'll be surprised how quiet it actually is.

I figured out how loud that spring is the day I got it. :D I have to say the quest is pretty quiet compared to my friends g1 extreme.

yea those are them, and they don't tumble, or lose accuracy

and if you dry fire this it is really loud

Then you either aren't shooting at a far enough distance or they aren't super sonic. If you don't believe me talk to rag he likes to keep his figures in the 900 fps range. He uses heavy weight crosman premiers if I'm not mistaken.

dry firing a springer is extremely bad for the gun. :!: The pellet in the barrel forms a sort air cushion to cushion the hit off the piston on the hard steel. They don't have bumpers like our piston cannons do. They simply use the pellet in the barrel to soften the blow.

Unfortunately not.
UK legal limits (which I like to keep my air rifle within), mean that the upper end of what's really possible is 800 fps with lightweight Crosman Premiers.

As a general rule, most learned airgunners will suggest staying in the 800-900 fps range, because it gives a reasonably flat trajectory, but without transonic accuracy issues.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

Wow! What a nice telescope. Is that built in? How about the sound? Maybe a little more encouragement for me to buy. Actually I dreamed one.

that's not a threaded barrel... its just knurled...

my phantom had that, so I cut and re crowned it.

also, good luck suppressing that, most of the noise from spring guns comes from the piston and spring,

Thats a good deal for a springer like that. JSR is right about the quietness of springes from even a short distance really. It sounds like a soft puff of air and then WHIZZZ! goes the pellet past you.

The scope was an after market add on, the scope that came on it was ok but this one was better... :D The sounds not bad, I'd say it's average for a springer.
