Morning all

A French Horn is about 3 metres long; it's just that they coiled up the air tube so you could handle it in tight spaces. The length of the vibrating column of air didn't change, just the layout.

So........

I want a reasonable length barrel on the BBMG to maximise muzle velocity with the fixed air supply I have. I also want a compact form factor.

Can I coil at least a portion of my barrel ? I assume increased friction will be an issue as the centripital acceleration comes into play, but will this be a limiting factor ?

This may be right up there with perpetual motion machines but I have my anti-mocking cloak on this morning so dont care.

Fire when ready.

Not as crazy as you think, a curved barrel worked for the Germans in WW2:

In practice though, I think for compact power you want to look into ways of cranking up pressure and valve flow as well as adding a detent, this will more than make up for a shorter barrel.

Could try making the barrel do a 180 and have an over-under layout.

Bit of fiddling with copper tube should get you there.

You must remember that some of the projectile KE will be transferred to the barrel if the barrel is permitted any motion such as a handheld device. The force required to change the direction of the projectile has an equal and opposite reaction and a resulting transfer of energy. Energy used to move the barrel is energey removed from the projectile.

Thanks, much appreciated.

Sorry for the delay in pics on the electro prototype, I have to wait for a time when SWMBO is not lurking, listening for the rat-tat-tat, before I get back in the workshop.
