The insides are the same as any co-ax...piston, barrel, barrel spacer. Have a look at jack's pengun if you want more specifics.

looks great, have you ever thought to put a NERF bullet over the front and seeing what kind of range you can get

That could be interesting..I think he's more into airsoft though, so maybe a detachable airsoft barrel secured with a rubber tube as a concealable backup? Though I doubt with AEG's that 1 round will do anything..

The reasoning behind the nerf is it'd be cool for it to launch something nearly as big as the gun itself

better yet, launch the gun.
Get a long projectile so you can hold the end coming out of the barrel, and hope it doesnt snap when you fire

Update: The pengun seals at around 25 psi and has no leaks. Held 500 psi over 24 hours without losing any pressure. Damage pics will be up shortly

I'm waiting for some parts to properly revisit the concept, I started a trend of sorts but didn't really pursue it as much as I should have.
