Also with the .50 BMG, if you have ever heard it, it has a fairly "flat" low report that is pretty hard to detirmine the direction it came from, and so in reality, its not very practical
Don't forget that the suppressor isn't just cutting down on noise but has other beneficial effects. Since the gasses are leaving the muzzle at lower pressure, it's having the same recoil-reducing effect as a muzzle brake, but without throwing up the amount of telltale dust in front of the shooter - which in places like Iraq and Afghanistan can be a real problem.

Also, if you're shooting at night - not a rare occurence given the profusion of NV optics on the modern battlefield - the suppressor cuts out the muzzle flash that can not only point out your position to the enemy, but also interfere with your vision.

yah, youve got the idea, the barrett scilencer accually replaces the barrell too i believe, so its not slowing down the bullet too much, but again, with such a large caliber weapon, you really dont shoot anything under 800 yards, and muzzle flash is really a socom kind of advantage for weapons like an mp-5, because the barrett does a fairly good job of burning most of the powder before the bullet leaves the barrell

I would image without the muzzle brake the kick would be substantially greater then with out the silencer....

Still I've got to get my hands on one of those rifles....any one want to lend me 8 grand?

well, both devices reduce the kick so whether you using the silencer or the muzzle brake then kick is going to be somewhat similar, and on the M82A1, the springs and recoil system alone substantially reduce the massive kick of the .50 BMG.

and btw jared, iv already started saving up for my own :D but at 7 bucks a round ammo is getting pretty expensive=[

yah, it gotten to be about 3.5 bucks to load yourself, but the other thing is now even the .50 BMG reloading equipmentis pretty expensive=[ and i checked, it about 5.5-6.5 bucks, but match grade is upwards of 9 bucks a pop :x if your seriously condiering it, look into the new .416 round. its got a much better ballistics coeficeint than the .50, and the rifle is cheaper, around 3.5k from barret, try to find one used for less, the only thing is, its not the classic semi auto barrett, its a bolt action, which is also great, lol i cant imagine anyone really needing to squeeze off 10 rounds of .50 bmg, but then again, why do we even need one .50 bmg round ....unless your neighborhood has more enemy tanks than i think it does :D

Enemy tanks no...watermelons yes....

I've looked at the .416 its a nice round. Stays super sonic after 2500 yards you can't beat that...

its a bolt action, which is also great, lol i cant imagine anyone really needing to squeeze off 10 rounds of .50 bmg, but then again, why do we even need one .50 bmg round Laughing

If you were to go for accuracy you'd be better off getting the single shot or the five shot repeater. Either gun would be very nice addition to my collection...

For a civillian shooter, perhaps, but if you're a military operator with enemy APCs approaching at 200 yards, you'd want to dump ten rounds of 50 cal into it as fast as you could ;)

Thats along the lines I was thinking of...any of Barret guns though would make a very nice addition to my collection...

.50bmg is like a long distance hammer. If it can't shoot through it on the first shot, or the second.... or third....

deff, i personally woud like the .416, but then again, as you said, you would be out on the range knowning in the back of your mind that you could offf gotten the legendary 50 cal round. Not only does it stay supersonic, but after about 800 yards i beleive it is, the Kenetic energy of the .416 will be greater than the KE of a .50 cal. If youve ever seen the movie Shooter, that desert camo rifle that is used to frame mark walthberg, is an amazing rifle known as the Cheytac M200, which fires a .408 incredibly fast, and the .408 will have more KE than a .50 after about only 500 yards. But anyway, just curious, what do you have already in your colection?

It's small so don't luagh too hard... but I've got a Lee Enfield .303 MK2, an M1 Carbine, and a Mossemburg 88 12 guage...my focus is on the WW2 rifles...I figure I've got a good start...

Barret is a bit newer then that but I just for the shear pleasure and pride of owning one is my driving force in getting one...I'm trying to get my hands on one before some polictical body decides its illegal to sell to civilians...Kind of like the poor fellows in California...

Thats intresting...I've heard about the .408 before but I hadn't thought of it in terms of KE...thanks for the tid bit I'm going to have to some more reading 8)

iv heard soe good things about mossemburgs, how do you like the enfield and the m1? and yah, thats prolly a good idea considering all the political sh*t thats happening, i persoally am looking for one used. But about the .408, Cheytac is having a lot a marketing problems, and i guess they wernt able to get in touch with anyone high up the politcal ladder in terms of selling to the army. So ammo is pretty hard to come by, that and the fact that the rifle is about 10k. But then again, its accuarate at up to 3000 yards, which, considering a mile is 1760, is veryyyy far, the farthest of any rifle to date i believe. What are you looking for the rifle to do?
like rec, hunting, or compitition?
