The bottle is filled with high pressure air. This is a compact grappling hook being built by Joel for military use. When I spoke to him about it I believe he said that he has made two which the military has and is using for testing.
For right now it shoots one launch from each air cartrige. He is planning to make the power of the shot adjustable for different heights and HPA conservation.
He hopes that this becomes a big money-maker. It looks very useful and promising. I'd love to see this as a regular military-issued item. I'm sure Joel does too. Man, he could be stinkin rich.

cant the military just make their own? i am guessing joel doesnt hold a patent... they might reverse engineer it and let somebody else make them for cheaper

No, he's got the rights to it. The military does their work by having people design for them. Since Joel has this experience and knowledge why not choose him?
The layout is just HPA tank that dumps through the handle, triggered by the one trigger you see there then flows out the barrel. The barrel is actually set up in reverse; the projectile is on the outside of the barrel. There is a pipe that just clips onto the hook and it slides right over the barrel. All of these parts are detatchable and can fit into a small case.

Basically, it's a giant nerf gun with a hook and cable.

![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.png)
. i used to have so much fun at 3am on saturdays modifying nerf guns. but yeah that grappling hook that joel has engineered is pretty nifty. It could be used to create an easy way to access tree tops, buildings etc... man i want to go build a grappling hook now

I think it is too big for military use.I suppose it can be done with the size of a hand gun.

it would be easyer to train someone to throw a grapling hook than to use this weapon.
anyone can throw a hook pretty high, a trained person could probly do a 6 story building... and bagdad dosent have very many skyscrappers
