No, 2D drawings are cut-throughs or side-views from 3D models.Is a 3D drawing not made with 2D drawings from different perspectives?
Its just that sometimes, with complex structured units, it may be hard to view that in 2D. ie: when there are multiple things behind eachother.
Ofcourse, you can make several drawings from several perspectives, but instead you could make a 3D model and just screenshot all perspectives you need OR even send/show the 3D file so that the people you are showing it to will be able to pick their own perspectives.
And as I said, google sketchup is not an heavy 3D rendering program that takes alot of time, its just a light and simple tool which allows you to QUICKLY create shapes and objects. Its like paint, but then in 3D
