like this one -> http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/my-comp ... t,105.html

it attaches directly to the compressor and has an in-built overload protection... that would simplify wiring a lot
Depends on the compressor. Some need a starting cap. Some use a run cap. Using a relay only without a run cap if it was designed for it can overheat it quickly.
not sure which is + and which is - though
This is alternating current. The cap does not have a polarity. Connecting hot and neutral properly is important. The overload disconnects the hot. The hot feeds the Common on the motor. Start and run go through the start relay and any capacitors if any on either or both legs. Getting the start relay properly wired is critical.

See the refrigeration book mentioned earlier for more info. Start configurations vary.

Disclaimer; I did some refrigeration and AC work before the regulations went crazy. As a part timer, the costs for the recovery equipment, licensing, etc went through the roof. I no longer do AC work. Anyone want a partial bottle of R12?

Yes, if it is only two connections. Sometimes there are two capacitors in one case, a start and run. The common and other connections can't be swapped.

well i think the capacitor is gone, i left it with the fridge and it poofed, can i skip it and just use the relay or does the relay rely on the capacitor to run

Need the cap for that model. The value does not have to be exact. Another start cap from a similar size motor will work. +or - 50% won't kill it.

The value is marked in MFD. For that size compressor 20-60 is somewhere close for 120v power. The cap voltage will be higher than 120 volts. Often near 400 volt. The cap voltage won't match the line voltage, so don't expect it to.

you might find it interesting... first 13 minutes are about refrigeration in the past so you might as well skip the beginning

have a look at 17:40... lol and you thought that the tin cannon was the first spudgun ever...

I wonder what main valve it used... notice the aircylinder and possible an oscillating valve I described here

there is at least one more spudgun in the series (in the secrets of internal combustion engine)... these vids are pretty cool IMO... basically it's like mythbusters and/or brainiac but from 1980's and funnier while being more serious

Ooh a rotary compressor, sweet! Too bad it didn't work.

Can the motor still hum? Last week I "kick started" a fridgy which only hummed. Give it one hell of a swing and it goes again. Even after I took everything apart and put it together again, it works again, besides that I ruined the gaskets (but I'm going to machine a new cylinder top, for a straight 1/8" connection and have to add a new gasket anyway.)
Till the day I'm dieing, I'll keep them spuddies flying, 'cause I can!

I'd buy a new starting relay for it...

I used 3 fridge compressors in my life... the first one as well as the second one was probably damaged by a broken starting relay (it broke down on the first one then I used it with the second one... damaging it... :? )

I thought that the third one (the one I use now) was dammaged (as it was removed from about 30 year old fridge that was supposedly broken) but it turned out that it had a broken starting relay so I replaced it and so far it works

Great stuff, informative monty python :D and no hint of health and f***ing safety, excellent!

edit: something else for spudders from the series:

I find it funny that you mention safety... :D

naah but seriously I like it because it shows everyday objects... and from time to time you can find something that could be used for spudgunning

Though it's hardly the first failure you've had with epoxy.

Then again, when you build so much something is bound to go wrong eventually.

Hi guys I am new around, I am considering to use AC compressor to fill my CNG car, under ideal circumstances I will be needing a pressure of 200 bars but even if I am able to reach a pressure of 100 bars it will suffice for my 24 hours requirement, you think this type of pressure can be reached?
