I haven't been able to get a good regulator for my CO2 setup yet (good = 300 psi out without costing $600), so I've devised a filling adapter that lets me charge the gun accurately, without subjecting anything to the full pressure of the CO2 tank. <br>
the adapter consists of a dumlop bicycle valve (one-way valve) inside a hose barb, a gauge from a busted 12V compressor and a compressor hose with a quick disconnect, all connected to a tee.

The gauge is still attached to the compressor block, since it's a bit complicated to remove.

A piece of thick PVC hose is connected to the hose barb with the one-way valve.

And it fits snugly inside the tank valve outlet.

To fill the gun, the quick disconnect is connected to the inlet on the gun, and the adapter is pushed into the tank outlet. The adapter needs to be held back with greater force than the gas is exerting, the area of the outlet is 1.33 cm^2 so to fill the gun to full pressure, I need to push with a force of 27 kg (60 lbs). This ensures that I can't fill it to extreme pressures accidentally, and with the gauge I can fill it to within 10 psi of the desired pressure.

do you think that this would work with a normal 20 oz CO2 tank?
and how long does it take to fill the gun to the right pressure?

Depends on the size of the gun, how much pressure you want, and how much pressure is left in the co2 tank. It shouldn't take long at all to fill it to the right pressure for average size guns though.

I was going to make a semi auto gun with a 20 oz Co2 tank and regulator with a small steel chamber, like 3 or 4 cubic inches. It would be useful because it would be semi auto but have really good acccuracy for paintballing.

wouldnt it be easyer to use a paintball gun regulator? such as a palmers stabalizer thats ment for co2.

i guess one problem with co2 is that once it is regulated it will start to climb in psi agian as it warms up. meaning a gun sat in the sun for like 10 mins good go boom

i have an extra regulator laying around ill see if i can create a setup

Spudstuff, that's not the important aspect - in fact, this setup is basicaly a manual regulator.
The point, I believe, is that the pressure will increase as the chamber warms up. Basics of the ideal gas law, buddy.

However, this shouldn't be an issue as:
1) Our pipe is used at pressures many time lower than it's bursting pressure
2) Such pressure increases are miminal.

Thats a grat idea and it's fairly safe... If i coul afford those large tanks i qould prbably try it.

well as for your idea on it going BOOM i wouildnt need to worry as im in ireland no sun EVER! well not much anyway
