I, like many other members here, certainly are mad by the prospect of people coming in asking for help or demanding plans without searching. However, I personally believe that people still won't search when instructed to, no matter how many times they are instructed to do so. So as a public service, I will dedicate this thread to assisting spudders in need.

If a part is DWV, it should only say DWV and maybe Sch 40 on the fitting/pipe.

On fittings the writing is usually raised and can be read once painted over, with pipe, if you have enough layers of paint you probably can't read it.

Don't Worry about identifying DWV pipe and fittings, more pressure rated fittings.

To find out if a fitting is pressure rated, it should have 'NSF-PW' and it may also have Sch 40 (or 80,120 etc) on it. IIRC American fittings don't have a pressure rating on them, but if they have NSF-PW, you're okay, it will be rated.

For pipe, it should have 'NSF-PW Sch 40 (or 80,120, etc) XXXPSI @73F'

XXXPSI, is the pressure rating, it changes depending on the Schedule rating and the diameter of the pipe. The pipe may have a different temperature rating, but the most common say '@73F'.

The pipe may also have 'DWV" written on it, as long as the pipe has a pressure rating, e.g '300PSI @73F' you're okay.

If it doesn't have 'NSF-PW' or pressure rating, chances are it's DWV.

As you can see, the difference is very obvious.

You can get fittings that look DWV, but I doubt you will find them at Home Depot or Lowes, usually they're only found online.

Should we perhaps update this list & the links in it? Also, maybe turn this into a Wiki page instead so we could simply link to sort of a "starters" Wiki page?

2 years since last update. Turning it into a wiki page sounds like a great idea. All the links should still be good but I did put at least 1 duplicate that I know of, I'll edit that out after posting this.

I've only played with building wiki pages so not sure how to convert a entire page with starters...

Unfortunately there isn't much of a way to "copy" a page into the Wiki, short of just the text it's self. Best bet here would be for us to copy the text of the links, make a new Wiki page, then use the Wiki editor to make each into a link going to the proper place. From there we link to the Wiki page!

I can help out with this as well, can help turn it into a simple page to point to for basic things.
