Burnt PVC

hey guys im just a little concerned is this a big problem if i breathed in a small amount of burnt pvc?
It was only for like 5 seconds and I ran out.

Serously, a few seconds aren't gonna hurt.

I breathed in freon when I removed a firdge compressor from a refirigerator... I've learned later that it's harmful.... (lol I know it does not really fits the topic but at least now you know you shouldn't do it)

nothing really happend.. and I find my 3rd hand very usefull :D

If it was a problem, you wouldn't be online asking about it right now, rather in the emergency room.

Your body can resist a limited exposure to just about any fumes. There's only a few gases that immediately attack the nervous system. Prolonged exposure to some fumes is the problem, mostly lung or brain damage. Also, breathing super heated air, as from a house fire, is a very serious thing. One deep breath can kill you.

Hi,

As far as I remember, the gases from burnt PVC produce hydrochloric acid when getting in contact with water. That's why even a moderate PVC fire can ruin large amounts of machinery, electrical installations etc.

But a single breath of that should'nt do much.

Your body can bounce back from much more serious injuries than most people realise. In terms of hydrogen chloride gas, if it didn't take you out then, it isn't going to get you now. I'd personally be much more worried about breathing in something like aluminum or steel dust, which will worsen with time.

i have felt just the same as you did when you startes to think over that it might be dangarous..

i have swalloved lead before and that is NOT good for you, but i am alive :D
