Well, i was roaming a flee market with my mom this morning and stumbled over a nice little dealer. He had six guns for sale(without license as they were meant as ancient pieces) two for 325$, one for 480$, two for about 250$ and one for 30$. The last one was very small and rusty with a slightly broken stock. after a bit of back and forth discussion we settled and i brought the gun. Now pictures will be coming, and i will give you guys a nice process journal about how this baby becomes a stock of my own. I will provide pictures all along the way. Here is a detailed list of what will be done:

1. The stock will be separated from the other parts of the gun.
2. Holes and cracks will be repaired with a thick epoxy putty or bondo depending on what i get my hands on, the big chip that is missing might be too, or it will be repaired with something else.
3. The gun will be sanded and varnished to give it a shiny look, and for it to be water and all resistant.
4. A replica of the stock will be made using a process that i have thought of(with lots of spudfiles help!), this will be a mystery process until i do it and will then be described in a how to.

This thread will be updated with pictures and comments a lot and i am hoping to get the first few pics of the gun now, and then after the first step up today. Happy spuding, and good luck on the contest!

No, John and I went together, it is actually a really cheap plastic that would probably break if the gun was fired...

Oh god, I flamed someone! That means, I'm a flamer!
Flamer is a common term for homosexual if you didn't know...

Sorry to take away from your post John; You're lucky to have flee market, the one I live by burnt down, and it scared people, because they had over 1000 boxes of bullets ~100 feet away from the fire!

After the fire, my friend sifted thru the ashes and found some cool stuff though...

Wow really on topic, well i have managed to deatatch the barrel from the stock though it was very difficult after all the screws had rusted to a degree where there was no was to turn them out, i had to drill them out and break the stock in half to manged, now i am glueing it back together and will get putty on monday, lots of it too looking at the amound of holes i have...Oh and my mom's camara is outa batteries which means pics will have to wait a bit.
Oh and the barrel is in good condition and is smoothbore, so my assumption that it was a rifel is wrong, but it has a .22cal and might be used for pellets by me, though it is fairly short and so i don't know if I will use it on this gun, but it will be used.

Do you have any idea how old it is?
And is it a muzzleloader?

Because I have never heard of a .22 caliber shotgun, but I have heard of .22 caliber lead ball guns.

a couple of thoughts come to mind

numrich http://www.e-gunparts.com/ has parts for old and obsolete guns.
Shipping might be a biatch though.
If you can get it kroil is a pretty good penetrating oil,http://www.kanolabs.com/
most guns have make , model, and sr# imprinted on them along with cartridge.
worth a look .
If its a .22 short with smooth bore maybe a gallery gun?

Well this baby is too old for any recognition oif any imprints, and i don't want to fire her, i just want the stock to replicate it. the epoxy dried and my camera died, i will try and take a few pictures at this stage befoe moving on the fixing up the holes and polishing the barrel(maybe i can use it as it is pretty damn strong and has a nice iron sight).
My main worry is the varnish i will have to use on it in the end, i don't know what whill provide the super smooth finish i am looking for, of coarse a lot of sanding will have to be done before i can use this baby.

For details about the gun: I is a very short(about 75cm) long gun with a smooth bore(no rifeling can be detected by the bare eye atleast) which is in a very bad condition as the entire barrel is rusty and the stock is full of cracks and holes. The butt is simply covered by a piece of iron. The mechanism is very simple and it is a bolt action(the gun is cocked by hand with a little know at the back of the bolt).

In the end the gun it's self will only serve as a mold for the shape of my final stock, the fixed stock will look very ugly as it will be covered in epoxy putty everywhere there was a crack.

This thread will soon be updated with pics!

Sand it, stain it or put some linseed oil on the stock. then buy some bluing remover and reblue the barreled action with some cold blue and you might have a decent little plinker. check the bore for obstructions of course.

is haven't read this whole post, but do you have the bolt and trigger group?

It is sanded and varnished, perfectly smooth. The barrel is a fake though, smooth bore and 22cal. Functioning bolt action and trigger and now broken, didn't survive the remake, also the holes for them are closed. I will layer her with fiberglass, till my baby is the right size, how long and wide do you reckon i make her? Anything I need to consider. This will only serve as a model for a stock and won't accutually be used.
