A little background. Calcium Carbide when mixed with water releases Acetylene gas. A carbide cannon is an Acetylene cannon, but uses carbide and water to generate the gas.

In this video they are going a little overboard on the size.. Enjoy. In it you can see the carbide and the water being added. Man talk about a no smoking zone..

Looks like fn, scary to think a few years ago i was touring through a cave(2 by two feet at one part :D) and the guide had a carbide lamp and a large container with carbide and water with him, i was scared to get stuck, but this wasn't the way i wanted to get "removed" from the hole either...

Also, this is the first spray and pray that is pretty damn cool!

Carbide lanterns are fairly harmless. The gas is burned as it is released and mixed with air much like a lit welding torch with the oxygen turned off. If the flame blows out and you go to relight it it may light with a pop.

Carbide lights were used for car headlights, coach lights, as well as miner's lights. They are most easly identified by having 2 containers that are about the same size. A water container with a drip adjustment and a calcium container. The gas then goes to the burner.

Love it, Rammstein in the background is a nice touch.

Really love the roatary barrel thingy. Tech, how about 6 quick dump valve cannons around a central axis with a cam pulling the valve out as they rotate to a predetermined position?

Once again proving beyond any doubt... The Dutch are just as crazy as the rest of us. :D

Looks like fun! 8)

That's a bit of an understatement, from what I've seen on this forum, I think they set the standard :D

I love my country. :D

I've never did carbid shooting though. And if I would, I would look into fuel metering (like calculating the required amount of water OR carbide).
Of course a fan, spark gap ignition and maybe a burst disk can bring this stuff up to an even higher level of awesomeness.
Till the day I'm dieing, I'll keep them spuddies flying, 'cause I can!

That idea I have been pondering ever since I started making drawings of the 1 inch QDV.

A simple lever (seesaw) with a spring would make firing easier. A pressure manifold to refill during rotation and GB hopper and barrel would make a full Gatling gun, but with only one barrel. :D I like the way you guys think.

I was thinking more along the way of using a 1 inch to meter fuel. An open breech would pass venting fans, then get a shot of fuel then pass a closed plate with ignition. a T with the hopper of footballs would complete it. :D Gatling for several revolutions is possible depending on the fuel supply and ball hopper size.

Thank you...

:D

And just like Psy, I never did any " carbidschieten" myself..
Only time you won't get fined for it is januari first, in certain area's that is.
It is illegal.
Just...cops tend to condone ( sp) it first day of the year..as a tradition.

And it is not about shooting projectiles, just about the boom.

Lots of dutch people I talk to about spudgunning seem to think the two are related, if not, the same...

... food for thought eh :D

The idea could be made even simpler as a combustion...
