pvc fitting question

GOD IM STUPID,

can someone explain to me what a female/male adaptor is please

a male adapter has a socket for pipe on one side and outside threads on the other side
a female adapter has a socket for pipe on oneside and inside threads on the other side

Instead of posting such questions, simply google image the two. I typed "male adapter" and <a href="http://www.dafehr.com/LT%20Copper/Image ... g">THIS</a> was the first result. Call it gross, but thats how I remeber the difference "male" sticks out, while "female" sticks inward.
