recently, the air conditioner in my house has been acting up. the AC people were called and they said that the compressor keeps auto-shutting off and not restarting. so here's my question: will this work to pressurize cannons if i can get them to keep it for myself?

In any case, A/C compressors have been used to pressurize cannons before, along with the compressors out of refrigerators.

If yours has some sort of circuit which is cutting the power to the compressor, then you could definitely use it, although it could also be that the compressor is seizing up, or there is a leak which is causing the A/C's circuitry to cut off the compressor before it burns up.

I'm not an A/C technician, nor have I used one of these compressors before, but those are my thoughts.

Fridges and AC units use almost the same exact system, just to a different magnitude, so I would say you can use the compressor and treat it as a normal fridgy. Just be careful that the problem is not in the compressor, if you can ask the people that looked at if the compressor if it is still in good condition and not the source of the issue that would be best.

The question that remains is did the AC tech properly test the start/run caps? These failing can cause the problem. Mechanical overload is rarely the problem as this is most often a broken stalled compressor that won't turn at all. The other reason for high compressor current is a shorted winding indicating a burn-out of the motor winding. When this happens the result produces acidic oil that is corrosive as the oil is burnt and freon breaks down. You don't want to use a burnt out compressor. The oil is dangerous.

Ok. I forgot to say that the conpressor is 9 years 7 months old. Lol we had a 10 year warranty.
