Putting some water in a sound suppressor to enhance the effect is a well-known trick for firearms, the fluid helps to cool the hot gasses and thus lowers the pressure. What you think makes sense. Besides, my opinion is that the coefficient of friction should increase a lot, because the water deposited in the bore of the barrel, in the form of micro drops, accumulates when the pellet advances towards the mouth of the barrel, do not forget that it is well adjusted, and at those speeds, water is hard as a solid. Both questions would explain what I observe. :?

That's a good point too, any water in the barrel ahead of the projectile is mass that has to be accelerated and would decrease performance.

Perhaps a tank cannon style bore evacuator would help ;)
