Legality of cannons in Massachusetts

For n e one wondering, I was at a 4th of July bash last night. My daughter and I were firing my cannons for about an hour until a state trooper showed up with a fire marshal.
To make a long story short, he made me dismantle my combustion cannon, dismantle by giving him the bbq ignitor. In Mass, n e type of combustion cannon is illegal. However, a pneumatic one is not and we continued firing that cannon for the rest of the night. If anything ever happens to n e one out there and the cops show up take this advise! Be nice and show respect. You will get alot further and like me, maybe even get to keep your cannon!!
SO, the moral of the story, build a pneumatic and ditch the combustion. And just, BE NICE!!! If all else fails, play dumb!! I know I'm a noob, but this is, in my opinion, good, free, advise!! Hope you all have a safe, fun, and potatoful 4th!!

I had a trooper roll up on my while shooting spuds from a combustion and he said it wasn't illegal but since it was scaring people I should take it elsewhere. So, even if it IS legal, it all depends on the particular situation I think. I was in the mountains, but people in the valley below though they were being SNIPED by a rifleman and they called the cops.

As far as I know Gas cannons are not illegal. If Gas combustion cannons/guns are illegal. They will have to dismantle all the paslode nail guns in mass, they combust butane.

Same goes for black powder cannons. As long as you do not exceed the max grain load of a 10 gauge shotgun shell. It is a classified as a black powder weapon. Again, ramset tools fire titainum nails to secure wood/metal framing into concrete. (Reenactors use black powder cannons)

You can break local noise ordenance laws, launching projectiles in close proximity to low flying aircraft, misconduct with a dangerous weapon and public endangerment.

Im just going by what the trooper told me. I know a guy who works on the police force here in Clinton, Mass and Im going to ask him and see what he says. However, another bbq ignitor was hooked back up to my combustion yesterday and was doing work all day!!

When the firearms laws were re-written, the state made the law very,very grey, so if they wanted to catch you breaking the law with a firearm they can. "Anything pertaining thereto." is very powerful and extremely vague. Basicly it means, if you do not have a permit, and you pickup an empty shell casing (walking through the woods), you are now breaking the law by possession. Some can argue that also can apply to possession of a scope or a rifle sling, on an airsoft gun. The law was written to catch more of the bad guys, but can be used if necessary on individuals with unrelated circumstances.
