Like several other spudders, I'm out of hibernation for an annual gun build. I've got some stuff coming up, but first some concerns.

I was thinking of buying this shock pump within the next day since I have the money and it's not as much as I thought it would be:
Image

There's only one review and I can't get a ton of detailed info I want, like stroke volume, but it looks solid overall. I mainly want if because it can go to 600 psi, which is higher than most Amazon shock pumps. It might actually be the only one and with Prime shipping they almost have my money.

I plan on using it for future metal HPA guns (finally!) and for pumping guns past my limit of 120psi. I had a few questions though:
The newest gun I'm making uses (as far as I can tell) a brand new burst disk design and I have a limit of about ~250 psi (that's some thick pvc, yo). My biggest concern is the stroke volume on any shock pump. Will it take long trying to fill a 2"x30" pvc chamber with a shock pump?
Are there any floor shock pump designs out there, and would that even be worth it?

And no, for now I can't make my own. Thanks in advance guys, I hope you'll enjoy what I have to post in the next couple weeks.

That's a big chamber for a foot pump, let alone a shockie. I think it would take a loonngg time to fill it up, I think you should double think such a big chamber. Ill let an expert tell you the stroke volume or whatever. It doesn't look big.

I'd buy it :D and I might buy one sooner or later,

Filling a 2"x30" chamber to 250psi with a shock pump is going to take a while...a long while.

How is it that you can build the launcher but not a pump??? :)

Might be something in the how to section...if a fellow looks past the first page. :)

Hehe, I've been here a few years and I've seen a few shock pump builds, but I just can't dish out that much extra money right now. I've pretty much spent all I can on this build, but for Christmas I got an Amazon gift card so I'd be able to buy a shock pump.

I might just wait on that shock pump then, see if I can't get this thing working with a footpump.

That's a decent pump, I got one similar and it tops 600 psi. You'll get tired of it very quickly, even fill a 20ml chamber to a decent pressure is a quite boring process...

A number of different brands use the same casting for their pumps. Mine looks just like that one only shorter, with a 300 psi gauge, and with a different handle. The one you picture looks like an improvement on mine and mine works very well for what it is.

Just to calibrate the statements so far, with mine I think it takes something like 150 strokes just to get to 45 psi with a 2"x8" chamber. I doubt anyone would not quit the first time if using it to pump a 2"x30" chamber to 600 psi. It does work great for mini or pen type guns and is usable for charging medium sized hybrids like mine with a 2"x8" chamber if you aren't in a hurry.

Fill gun to 120 psi with foot pump or compressor, top it off with shock pump? Or just use a fridge compressor.. they go to like 800 psi

If you are unwilling to build a HPA pump and don't have arms like tractors, this is the most viable option to take a large chamber to high pressure.

That being said, higher pressures usually mean you can get away with relatively small chambers.

If you want to limit yourself to 250 psi or so though, there is another option, also on amazon:

I just read the description. The three modes for different pressure ranges sound really interesting.

It is kind of expensive for a bike pump, but it sounds like no other bike pump that I have seen. Also, if you look you can find it a good bit cheaper.

I've been keeping an eye out for one for at least a year. Where I dorm, a lot of people have personal fridges, so within a year or two I'll see if I can't get/buy one off of a friend.

To clarify, the gun design uses a burst disk set up but is purely pneumatic. It's the next generation of this, my last gun: http://www.spudfiles.com/how-to-databas ... 24868.html It's not a hybrid; I will only make one out of metal, and probably smaller (think Kar98K size).

In the end I think I'll just use a floor pump. But dat Amazon Prime... expect another air rifle maybe in the summer or next year. I'll have the whole spring semester in my way :(

You want to watch that. The heat exchanger in smaller units sometimes isn't vapour compression - I believe the Peltier effect is a common alternative.

Yup... almost got a face-full of high pressure ammonia once.

Yuck..

I got a full inhale of gasoline smoke & fumes after dumping a bottle of it onto an open fire.

I had a migraine for two days straight, not a way to spend vacation..

Not quite "yep", as that's actually an absorption refrigerator - but you have a valid point, that's also common in smaller units and probably the thing to be more careful about as it'll be a lot easier to mistake for a vapour compression unit than a Peltier cooler.

Lo and behold, I'm digging up a really old thread because I didn't realize I posted this three years ago. I'm working towards HPA and I had questions about it, but what do ya know I already have a thread with a lot of answers. Instead of making a new thread I figured I could just keep all of my relevant posts together...

I thought it would be fairly relevant to post I'm finally getting a '300' psi shock pump (with a 400 PSI gauge, and description says 400 PSI or 28 bar max) that I'll be using on a metal piston gun in December. It's less than $20 USD from Ebay, cheaper than Amazon for any US residents looking for one of these things. The pump listed in the original post isn't available apparently, but I didn't look around for it.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/262719913030?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

I'll be using this on a black iron gun I'm designing with ~2 cubic inch chamber.
