I may be just mad, but I wondered, would it be possible to use an HPA tank and regulator threaded on top and then create a 'unit' that threads to the regululator that had some type of pushrod mechanism permanently in contact with the center pin of the regulator upon which a hammer type assembly depresses the pushrod and then this would open the regulator valve to release a burst of air? Is this just crazy thinking or could it possibly work?

I thought the use of a pushrod would prevent the regulator pin from getting mashed and the rod could be easily remade if the end where the hammer hits doesn't hold up so well.

Just thinking out loud hoping for any experience or opinions on this.

O.t. But don't want to make a thread just to ask this, so any experts on fluid motion or whatever its called,

If I had 2 solenoid valves both rated at 5Cv, but one rated and operating at 300psi and the other 600psi would the 600psi one flow almost double the air volume if the air was allowed to return to atmospheric pressure and measured after passing through the valve? By the way I did google this and found some info but the ammount I understood it could have been written in a foreign language!

Thanks in advance.

Well, assuming the regulator is using that thread (CGA-320? .825"-14 NGO? I think they're the same), you can just use a 1/2'' coupling and somehow manage to add a permanent pin in there, that way when you thread the regulator into the coupling, the pin just stays open. Then on the other side of that coupling would be your hammer valve. That's just a thought. Something like this?

Thanks, yes regulator is normal thread as I have already connected it to a 1/2" BSP solenoid valve with no leaks, it threaded on as if they were the same thread.

Your diagram shows perfectly what I was thinking, my other concern was would the opening and closing effect the regulation of the regulator as it is designed to be just opened and pressurized occasionally giving it chance to get to correct pressure? Also would the flow be high enough as they are pretty small holes through it, previously I have used a small chamber (enough air for at least one shot) between regulator and solenoid valve.

If you're worried about the flow, you could put a nipple between the coupling and the hammer valve to store some of that regulated air, that way when you open the hammer valve you'll have a good amount ready to flow out. As for the regulator, I have no clue how those things work =\.

Thanks for help and ideas, I thought of an easy. Way to try it if I use one of the on/off fittings that fit on the regulator and have the braided hose coming out, if it looked suitable I could diassemble one and remove the threading from the shaft that normally winds up and down. I could then reassemble and in theory! Pushing down on it should release some air, will need to check how they work as far as sealing etc before I hack it up.
