A very minor and common experience for probably many spudders here. In my country, i think it will attract lots of unwanted attention, so here it goes. I was charging up my mini coax and all of a sudden it went BAM. Luckily it was a blank facing the wall. It was in the middle of the night so it wasn't very considerate of me. I checked for leaks the next day and realised it was leaking air behind the piston, causing accidental blank fires each time i pumped it up.

Nothing much, just to warn those who are just starting out like me to check for leaks at low pressures before pumping it up. if it wasn't blank and wasn't facing the wall, i don't think it will be pleasant if you ACCIDENTALLY shot someone due to your laziness of checking for leaks.

im not sure if this qualifies but i just finished my first air cannon and i have not tested it yet. but today i thought i would blow into the fill valve to see if i could even get the sprinkler valve to seal. i blew and failed in getting to seal and stupidly breathed back in with my mouth still on the fill valve, i blacked out and fell down for a moment. the glue had been set for a few days now but there was still nasty glue fumes left. ill never do that one again.

Hokay, so I had just got the 10', 2" barrel for my hybrid and I was pretty excited. I started with the copper barrel, mashing batteries against a steel plate. It was almost time to leave, so I told myself "1 more shot" switched to the 2" barrel, and loaded a golf ball with a sock wad. I filled the hybrid to ~6x, got back and hit the ignition... nothing. I approached the cannon, vented some of the gas, retreaded and fired again.

That didn't work either, so I walked up to the cannon and shorted the ignition wires up close. BOOM. Golf ball hit the steel plate I had neglected to move, ricochets, and smacks me in the left shoulder.

The next day I had to take a swim test and failed because I couldn't raise my left arm.

I was lucky the golf ball hit me in the shoulder rather than the head

well i don't know if this qualifies as a cannon accident but my friend was staying over at my house an i decided to show him my new cannon and he immediately want to shoot it so i pressurized it you 80 psi with a golfball for ammo and shot an old shed in my back yard...big mistake...we were amazed at the whole it left but then we realized we had shot a BEE HIVE that had made the shed its home i alone got 18 stings and i don't recall how many my friend got(more than me tho)

I just read the thread, lots of stupid and lots of interesting incidents in here. These are my cannon accidents, I haven't fired my cannons in a couple of years but I'm thinking of blowing the dust off them and having a go.
1. An unrated 90° PVC elbow exploded on my very early combustion cannon experiments. Nobody was hurt.
2. An unrated PVC barrel shattered when I fired a rock, that apparently wedged on its way out. This is when I decided to use PP for a barrel instead. I was holding the barrel at the base, fortunately only the outer 2/3rds shattered, and it happened quite gently.
3. I put together a quick and dirty cannon with a pop bottle and piece of pipe, forgetting that this was the same pop bottle I had shot a ball bearing through earlier, cracking the bottom. I rested the bottle against my chest when firing, resulting in holes in the t-shirt and second degree burns (the top layer of the skin was blasted off, so I got scabs rather than blisters). Fortunately the shower was only a few seconds away, and the burn healed nicely.
4. I was trying to make a photogate and flash circuit, that would charge glow-in-the-dark airsoft BBs with a flash tube as they exited my airsoft semi (turned out my phototransistors were too slow to detect the BB reliably). The detector and flash circuits were not insultated and were powered by separate batteries, apparently in such a way that the two batteries were at a voltage difference equal to the full capacitor voltage...as I discovered when I picked up one in each hand.

When I saw a new post by you in it I expected to find a tale of some catastrophic accident that has kept you away for so long  :D

Haha, not to worry, I've just been pursuing other interests such as pyrotechnics, women, and skydiving (in that order, pretty much). I may show off my old combustion cannon to my skydiving buddies next weekend, I think they'd enjoy it.

You could always combine the three, give a woman a parachute and strap her to a massive (pyrotechnic ;p) rocket :D

It should be called suicide :D I haven't had any cannon accedents, apart from forgetting to glue a reducer in a HPA pneumatic. Made a hell of a bang though.

Well so far *knock on wood* only 1 event with my first cannon *pics of it to come soon. Mine is a CO2 ran, using a remote line from paintball. Brought it out to air soft one day to take out the tank and we were shooting it in the field just playing 500 with the footballs and i showed my friend how to shoot. Always remember what way is ON/OFF with a remote line. Least i know my air chamber can handle 300 PSI >< and seeing a big puff of white co2 air come out the barrel. Sweet stuff.

Dont put 300 psi CO2 in pvc. CO2 will get cold and 300 psi is well beyond the safe operating pressure of that pipe.

We didnt do it on purpose, it was accidental (hence my post in this thread). The operating range I use is more than half of that.

i was too lazy to buy primer for my first pneumatic cannon, and i accidentally got ABS glue. i didn't notice until after it dried and i tested the cannon. as i pressured it to about 80 PSI, the chamber FLEW off of the ball valve and went crashing into my foot.

needless to say, i got a refund on the ABS glue.
