Even if it takes a year or so, free time and memories will sneak up and ambush you, dragging your fingers to the keyboard to type out spudfiles in google just to see how things have got on.

...ya know one one the best things about this site is the members, you can all act in a civilized manner, act in a professional way about it all, and most of all just get along, you dont have people keyboard-bashing on practically any threads...

Ironic, isn't it? A forum full of (mostly) teenagers who enjoy shooting at stuff get along better than forums populated by adults.

You'll be back, even if it is only lurking off-line occasionally. It takes dedication to create the stuff you have, so you may never let go completely.

The reason for that is that spudguns require a certain amount of intelligence to piece together, so you don't get complete nitwits floating around - except occasionally.

Sorry to hear you're off Chaos, I liked your work. But, I don't know that anyone as experienced as you ever gives up spudding completely - so in a year or two, you'll be back - having found a leather jacket and sunglasses, a mysteriously acquired Austrian accent and a couple of hundred pounds of muscle.

I don't think that's a result of the pills. I can completely fail to fall asleep at night because I'm thinking too much, and that's come up in those long hours of brain activity.
Some German/Austrian/etc surnames are clearly quite different in their formation to English ones.

Indeed, for example when you hear "Ramsbottom" you'd think uh-oh, but the name probably means "rams valley" from Old English ramm (ram) and botm (valley). However some toponymists interpret it as wild-garlic-valley, with the first element representing the Old English hramsa.

Chaos, even though I haven't gotten to know you that well I have come to respect your work especially your S-400, I can't believe your leaving, It's hard to give up the hobby... you'll be back.... 8)

I admire your work greatly. It may take a while, but I am sure you will be back in the hobby once you get everything settled out.

Same goes for "Cockburn" (pronounced Co-burn, I will have no oddly coloured heavy footed pachyderm loose in here) - literal meaning, "Brook by the Hillock".
You may have heard some horrendously overplayed and stereotyped Scot in some film use a line like "by the wee burn" - referring to something near a small stream or river.
Cock, a now unsurprisingly mostly obsolete word meaning hillock - which seems to be becoming obsolete as well.

But Ramsbottom and Cockburn are rare names - obviously, all languages have simple surnames like Smith, which has obvious origins.

pretty much the same thing happened to me. my other life (not the one where i wear a cape and run around yelling I AM THE NIGHT!) just became more important and all consuming, and as my interest dwindled, i stopped building and frequenting this site. i still look around every few weeks, see whats going on, stuff like that. i do get the itch to build stuff occasionally, so after i get back to the states, i may return to building.

anyway, best of luck to you, and may you resolve your issues with the girl.

P.S. what areas in the states did you visit?

It is sad to see a spudder go, but you'll be back I do believe in that spudder sense, whenever I see a big piece of steel pipe, I think "wouldn't that make a good chamber?"
