Hey- ever since I've been a member here i've never been able to attach pictures to my posts- I always get an error that says Tried to upload empty file.

What does that mean?

Are you sure they are the right format and not too big?

I got the error when sending photos that are too big. The upload failed, then the post found the zero'ed file and provide the empty file error. Try re-sizing them to no bigger than 800 X 600 pixles.

Ok well I guess they're too big- by ALOT lol.

How would I go about resizing them??

I open them in photoshop, and use it to resize the image, then save them as a jpeg again. 30secs tops

But, if you don't have photoshop, you can do the same with MS paint. Just open the image with MS paint, click ctrl+w, then set the numbers to 50 instead of 100. Save as jpeg, check the size, repeat if necessary.

Note: If you resize it using MS paint with this method, hardly any detail will be lost. If you resize it manually, it may loose some detail.

An excellent photo editing program The Gimp is open source, free, and comes in versions for Windows, Linux, and Mac. Under Image, select Scale Image and set the larger dimension to 800. Save. Done. For features and abilities, it rivals Photoshop. Not bad for a free open source program.

As a full photo editor, it takes some time to learn.

I use it for all my photo editing.

Note, it does not come with a Windows installer program (binary) so you will have to follow the detailed installation directions to install it on Windows. I use it on Linux. It came pre-installed.

Pixel size shouldn't be the problem. I've got 1600x1200 pictures uploaded without issue.

The file size of jpeg files is however limited to 350 kb - which is enough for simple things, but is still fairly restrictive. Even if we just count pictures I've personally made, I've got still got 21 megabyte jpegs around.
(Still, nowhere close to the 750 MB photoshop file...)

Still, if the file size was the problem you were having, it'd tell you that.

www.Photobucket.com automaticly resizes pics to a usable size for use in posting here. Then just copy and paste the direct link inside the IMG tags while your writing up your post and preview post to double check and your done.

i prefer to use a full photo editor because I often crop photos to eliminate background clutter and focus the subject on what's important.

Examples shown below of a fridge compressor.
