i was just wondering if anyone knows if anyone has been caught because of something they have posted on this sight, eg. i live in AU and have posted multiple combustion, air and hybrid guns on this site all of which are illegal here in AU (just add i have not done nor intend to use any such thing for anything other than target shooting) and am wondering if it is possible that i could be tracked via this site?
im not saying that i am worried about posting on this site i think its great but i just thought i would ask
thanks you

Nope...nothing, and I do stuff (that isn't spudguns) that would draw a lot more attention than firing an underpowered gun in the middle of town...A skull-$#%&ing boom and cloud visible everywhere should attract more attention than guns. My town has a population of 329, so there would be no mistaking where it comes from..

If the site became of interest to police then, sure, they could track your ip adress. And if they have your IP adress then they know your internet service provider.

From here it gets annoying for them because they would have to get all kinds of legal permits to force your ISP to reveal your identity. Cops are lazy. I know. A family member is one.

I'm not saying it will never happen but the fact is the AU police force have their hands very full and it would have to become a priority for them to go to the lengths of tracking you. If they ever do then I know I'm f#!$ed lol.

I get recognized from time to time since my little launcher was featured on Makezine.

Due to the nature of the ammo, I have had no problems shooting in town,

First they would have to force PCguy to reveal your IP. That's why I feel safer when posting stuff on an american site. The police would have to contact the police in the US, then they would have to get the IP address and send it back.

Poland, I kind of doubt that would be neccessary. I'm sure they have ways of getting it via other means. And they don't even need your IP... As anonymous as I try to be, I can almost guarantee that I've let out information here and there so it would be easy to figure out my rough whereabouts. Hell, some people already know both my real identity and this pseudonym, so I hardly keep my identity a secret. I just don't shout it out for the world to see.

The simple things to keep in mind are that the police simply don't care about tracking down some kid they saw on the internet with a spudgun... You'd have to be pretty unbelievably stupid and malicious with it to cause them to waste the resources on you.

This is why I basically participate in the forum but don't really build anything anymore (or at least, don't build anything that I don't completely dismantle again once I've tried what I wanted to try). It keeps anyone from ever having any reason to bother giving me any trouble.
I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges.
Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before.

As noted, they would have to go through me first, and I wouldn't give up any kind of information unless I absolutely HAD to. It's never happened before, ever.

That's good to know :) but what about youtube accounts, would a large corporation be more likely to give out such information, because if so it's a potential back door to identify and locate spudfiles members, and certainly many people have been arrested after incriminating themselves on youtube, facebook etc.
