guide rod

Most likely this has already been addressed, but I bought a sprinkler valve with a guide rod in it. There isn't enough room around the sides to drill the hole so I was ondering if I could simply take out the guide rod. And if so how would I take it out?

I would like to help you out with that, but i would have to have it in my hands to see it good enough to do anything with it. If you have a camra, post some pics of the diaphram and rod, both sides, outside of the valve. Maby i or someone else will be able to give you a idea of what to do.
Must be a little valve not to be able to drill to the side.

I had a valve that had that problem. It was a normal sized valve, but it was all screwed up o the inside that it wasn't possible to drill to the side of the rod. I don't think it'll work if you take the rod out, you will probably have to find a valve without one.

Btw, what valve is it?

Its just a Lawn Genie, I might be able to drill around the side but it looks as though it would foul up the spring. I might just drill it anyway and see if it kills the valve or not.

Ya I had a Lawn Genie 1" and I didn't want to risk drilling it and wasting a valve so I just took it back and got an Orbit Watermaster 1" and it doesn't have a guide rod.
