and hot glass flying out differs fromut the burning chemicals and screaming projectile how? that really doesnt matter (did u think they planned to luanch nerf darts at eachother) because with the burst disk there is already flying plasic whats a little glass gonna do, plus wouldent a burst disk not work properly bercause of the high heat i mean it would melt and give out before intended right?

I believe that metals need to be near molten to be "burned away" by oxygen. That is the principle behind cutting torches, yes? Solid u-pvc generally does not burn very easily, as it is a self-extinguishing material if I am not mistaken.

I believe a cutting torch simply melts and blows the metal away, it does not burn/combust the metal. In order to get the metal to burn you would need a huge excess of oxygen.

PVC will burn like a flare in pure oxygen. All plastics will. That is why open flames are a BIG NO NO in hospital around patients on pure oxygen. Cotton and paper don't burn in pure O2, they pretty much explode. Plastics, wood and other dense combustables burn very hot and fast.

Where I buy my PVC materials from it under the properties page it lists it as a self-extinguishing material.........

Ding ding we have a winner. Cutting torches (such as oxy acetylene) melt the metal, and then use a steam of high pressure oxyegn to blow it away.

I think the majority of pvc is generally self extinguishing, but in the presence of pure oxygen it will burn because the flame has a healthy supply of oxygen, so it can't self extinguish. Pretty much anything will burn at a certain point when their is an abundant source fo oxygen.

Killjoy is correct, "self extinguishing" would refer to combustion in air, not in a high oxygen environment.

Heck in pure oxygen steel wool burns nearly instantaneously.
