modding guide pin sprinkler valve

I bought a solenoid which looked like it wouldn't have a guide pin but it does, theres not really enough room to drill around the sides anywhere, so If I get rid of the pin and epoxy in the hole in the middle that it fits in will that work?

It should work just fine as long as the seal to the diaphragm isn't damaged. I would suggest, however, that you check out the thread called 'modding the wrong type of sprinkler valve" first. Try to leave the guide rod. It is there for a purpose.
