I'm about to begin construction on a paintball field. It is not going to be very big but I am going to allow the use of alternative weaponry (i.e. cannons, landmines, grenades, etc).
As far as cannons go, I am only allowing pneumatic cannons. I was wanting to know of any safety concerns that will be posted to each person participating, as each and every alternative homeade weapon will be inspected. I want to make sure I cover everything. This is what I have so far:
Each devise will have a safety pop-off
Each devise will be constructed of pressure rated components
Each devise will have a manual safety to block trigger usage
Each devise will have a barrel blocking devise
Each devise operating CO2 or HPA will be regulated
Is there anything I am missing? Also, input is welcome on grenades and mines as well.
Thanks

the spelling of "device"Is there anything I am missing?
And no mention of maximum feet per second, rate of fire and projectile weight and construction. I suggest a good standard would be to have a consistent cardboard screen which the projectile/s must not penetrate in order to be considered safe.

If your shooting at people put it on a lower psi etc.

And if there is a minimum distance a cannon can shoot at a another player if that is allowed at all. I sure as hell wouldnt want to be shot point blank with 20 paint balls even if they are regged down.

I suppose the same rules as airsofters have for higher powered snipers would apply. And if there is a minimum distance a cannon can shoot at a another player if that is allowed at all

I still would hesitant to play in a field where I might chance getting a full load of paintballs to the head. Call me a coward but I know my cannon can shoot through a lot more than a plastic shield.

You could have the artillery behind the lines in such a way that they'd never be at point blank range from anyone and be obliged to use indirect fire.

Or put the cannon in a fort or bunker and let every one know before that it will be there and after that its free game. The cannon wouldnt be able to move out of the bunker.

20ft!?!?! 15 paint balls going at 250 fps will be a nice tight group of pain. Say hello to large bruises.

Again I would suggest the "cardboard sheet" test as opposed to a fixed velocity - if only because you might not actually have access to a chrony to gauge the velocity. The point is an airsoft BB doing 250 fps is safe, a heavier dart at the same velocity could be lethal.-No device ( Wink ) will fire any projectile faster than 250fps
What you need is a comparison test with a willing volunteer ready to define the point where penetration of X sheets of cardboard = too much pain to handle

jack: I do have access to a chrony. I also have access to some "friends" who can define that point for me.
(I've taken a hit with my air cannon, modeled after the BECC with 20 balls at about 30ft).
I will consider this cardboard test as it does seem like a good way to judge that barrier.

I agree with Mr Jack on that one, but personally I don't think you should allow cannons to shoot at people. Unless you have a ref tagged to each cannon player, who is the judge of the distance? I can see a lot of arguing over the distance a player was shot at.

Added:
-Any shot fired at a player will be fired at a minimum distance of 20 feet and at a minimum angle of 40 degrees.
-Any player utilizing an alternative device will do so when accompanied by a ref
(Sound better)
